I only wish for the winner to get more points in all scenarios

I think we need to change the scoring system. If the winner gets 40 pts. + the difference between percentage of routed soldiers they can end up getting less pts. than the loser.
Example:
Player A beats player B 60-59. Player A as a winner gets 40 (for winning) + 1 (for difference in % routed) = 41 and player B gets 59!!! (% routed)
I admit it's a rare situation but it's possible and currently I'm fightining a battle with deeter where we are past 40% of routed troops and there is no clear favorite so we may end up getting close to 60% and then the current scoring system will not make sense.
EDIT: So I'm thinking that the easiest solution would be to increase the score for winning from 40 to 60. This way even in the example above the winner would get minmally more points then the loser (61 to 59) which is a fair deal I think

.
Not if you won 65-64 (or do I mean lost)

Well... that's very unlikely as the game ends when one side reaches 60%. I proposed 60 pts for the winner but it might as well be 65. It doesn't really matter because in a mirror challenge if each side wins one battle this victory bonus points will cancel each other out and the rout % will be the deciding factor. It's the same case when it comes to establishing the weakest teams.

Team 1 vs Team 5
rs2excelsior (Team 5, Macedonian) beat schmolmywar (Team 1, Greek) 60-42
(Team 5 points: 60 + (60-42) = 78; Team 1 points = 42)
The Greeks held back, and used their superior numbers to extend around my flank and ruthlessly exploited every gap that opened in the wall of pikes to slip units through and around. Most of the battle I was desperately trying to avoid flanking attacks. A few got through, but I got some lucky breaks which freed up units just in time to ZOC enemies on my flanks. I managed to pull out a win with a veteran Greek hoplite that finally autobroke, but it was a thoroughly bloodied army left by the end of it. Good game, very well played!

It should have been 60 from the beginning, sorry about that. I hate to say it, but my numbers are not the greatest, and please let me know if any in the future are messed up.^^
*** So, from now on it is:
Winner: 60 plus % difference
Loser: % of casualties inflicted

Deeter's Macedonians beat Onlin's Greeks 61-58 after a lengthy battle. Olin put up a tenacious defense helped in large part when my fresh phalanx, attacking a hoplite downhill with a general, routed at first contact never to be seen again. The situation got worse when another general leading a xystophoroi unit spent the rest of the battle pursuing some routed LH. It is a razor-thin victory, but I will take it.

Could you add the point totals too please? (winner = 60 plus difference in % / lose = % routed)

Um, 60 + 3 = 63 for me, 48 for the loser? I that correct? I'm terrible at math.

Thanks Olin. Not as favorable, but more accurate. I'm better at losing generals than I am at simple math I guess.

Team 3 v Team 7
Challenge1 (Macedonian) defeated SawyerK (Greek) 44-10
Team 3 - 94
Team 7 - 10
There was a deep stream running across the middle of the battlefield and lots of rough terrain protecting the Greek left. The Macedonian advantage in cavalry was negated by the terrain but the rough ground was undefended and so the Macedonians tried a cautious advance and finally an attack on the Greek left. This was well defended but with half the battle already over the Greeks answered the call to be more aggressive and advanced over the river. While the Macedonian Phalanx pinned the hoplites a combined force of cavalry and Thracian med inf attacked from their previously hidden positions in a wood that protected the Macedonian left. The result probably would have been a draw had the Greeks maintained their defensive stance on the river.
Well played and thanks for the game.

Team 5 Vs. Team 1
Karvon (Greeks) draw MarcoCato75 (Macedonians) 10-21
Casualties:
Greeks: 10%
Macedonians: 21%
Team 1: 42 + 10 = 52
Team 5: 78 + 21= 99
Great game and well played Karvon, at least I managed to survive against a veteran player

Our infantery didnt get in combat at all, I was stomped by his skirmishers and my pikes lost all the support for the attack

Just an update that Round 2 will be starting soon. The battles still outstanding will be completed any time now from what I've heard, and once they're posted here, round 2 will begin immediately.
You will not play the same team twice, so everyone will get a different opponent next round.
Remember that the 2 teams with the lowest points will not be promoted, and demotions will continue until there is only ONE!^^

Many thanks for arranging this tournament! I like the format (easy, focus upon battles, etc.), which can be easily translated to other historical contexts (Roman, to start with).

Myself and carpenkm have now brought our bloodbath of a battle to a conclusion.
The gods smiled upon the freedom fighters of Greece , granting me a 65 - 46 win over the Macedonians. Pike blocks failing cohesion tests and Hoplites making cohesion tests at the very end made the difference.
Thanks to carpenkm for a great game.
How are you doing snooky...?

Thanks for a tough game and well played - hopefully enough of my troops will recover from their wounds for round 2. I'm off to make some serious sacrifices to the gods.
