A revised map is now available here:

Forgive the cartoon colors. The map will probably be used only to track changes in control of territory. For information on which player is govening which province, etc., go to the spreadsheet here. It's incomplete but I'm working on it.

For information on the various battles underway and the progress of campaigns, go to the spreadsheet here:

Those are permanent URLs so bookmark them if you wish.

Tim

Guys, I'd like to request that everyone enlisted in this tournament provide an email address. I ask because email contact would simplify communications and ensure that everyone receives important announcements in a timely fashion. These boards are very chatty and important stuff often gets buried in the sheer volume of posts, and the Slitherine PM system is not well configured for sending messages to a large number of people simultaneously. Even if only half the players provide an email address, it will help. Your address will remain confidential and invisible to other players.

If you agree, you can PM your address or email it to roots1955 AT live DOT ca

Thanks!

Best,

Tim

Yes, that's right. i'm just waiting to hear from Klaus if he wants to take over duties as the Pontic commander. Some fresh challenges will be going up soon. Looks now like he wants 2 games from each of you rather than just best of 7.

Best,

Tim

Fellow Northern Roman Commanders Tophat and Macsen please take note so gather your surviviors, revamp the defences and issue a challenge to the cheeky Gauls time to have our revenge one and for all.

I was away having been sent a scroll from the senate announcing a delay in operations. i then took leave to manage my estates, now I have received a message from the governor calling me to again take the field against our hated barbarian foe! I shall return at once and bring with me reinforcements to bring my legion up to strength.

Hail Noble Senators of the Glorious Republic

I'm afraid I must be bearer of bad tidings from the Gaulic regions ... Under the Noble Senate's direction, I was in command of a vexilation that was peacefully patrolling out Gallic frontier when we encountered a rag-tag band of itinerants, obviously up to no good ... Before proceeding to deal with them in the normal fair-handed Roman way, we sought guidance ... the blood & liver of the goat seemed to show promise, and we were under a favourable cloud formation, but it was reported later that a hawk was seen in the far distance, circling in an eastward direction ... However, conflict ensued, and our troops were advancing bravely, when my bodyguard unit was attacked by a random group of foul smelling, beer swilling, oafish braggards. Whilst showing true Roman leadership, I was cut down in the first round of combat ... I was just picking myself up, knocking out the dents in my gilded Mantuan breastplate, and reasuring my men that I had just sustained a flesh wound, when my whole bodyguard unit was destroyed in the second round of combat ...Needless to say I'm a bit peeved & wish it known that this unit is not to receive a donative from the Senate ... My men fought on bravely, but it was at an unfair disadvantage, having lost my brief but inspiring leadership ...
Final result was : Vexiliation 31/31 - Itinerants 42/45

From the shade of Jolinus Gnaus Martoginus ... Jolan'Tru

To all Roman Commanders in Asia.

You are a bit too fast. As I´ve announced I´m working on a Naval Battles addon for this campaign and I´m still fighting on side of Cilicians, Sertorius, Suebi and Dacians at the moment.

I´ll contact you when I´m ready to go.

Cheers, Klaus

To RexHurlius and his Legates:

The Allobroges have not been checked. All 4 battles have been lost. Unless this trend is quickly reversed in the next series of battles the map will look like this:

Image

Rome will be severed! Hispania will be cut off. Recall what happened the last time the Gauls got this uppity! Rome itself was trampled by the Gallic horde. Vae Victis! #justsayin'

Best,

Tim of Gaul

Special Challenge

When the tournament started, Klaus posted a series of historical questions. Players providing the correct answer won points. That's how some of the players have amassed so many. Newer players haven't had this means of getting points quickly. So I'm posting a special question for them -- Tullius, martog, and Tophat, please take note. Tell me what event in Roman history this painting refers to. You don't have to identify the artist or provide any fancy details, just the upshot. Please PM me your answer. It's possible for more than one player to win. After a few days I may open the contest to the whole crew but at this point only the newcomers can score. Correct answer is worth 5 points!
