Division B

batesmotel(Med. Irish-Late) 42/49 beat cunningcairn (Ordonnance French) 34/32

The French knights and Swiss pike were tough for the Irish to beat but in the end the Irish numbers out lasted the French as we each crushed the other's left flank. Thanks for a very good game.

quite a rollicking battle...macsen suckered me into some poor terrain woods fighting and took a strong early lead...i ran for some gentle hills for cover and safety. on my other flank his xbow sat in cover and pummeled my pike reducing me down. at this point i was considering a truce flag, but i figured i'd wait and see what happened, and pulled out of bow range. he advanced and charged with his knights...but at slight disadvantages...i held (or disaster might have insued). soon he was piling swiss mercenary pike and armoured spear reinforcements across the whole front...but these eventually ran into troops on the hills...that was the beginning of the end, as my swiss pike on high ground was supreme, and quickly were charging off the hill to strike weaker spear...on my left i finally made contact with the xbow using some MF and quicly reduced them...it slowly went from him leading to me having a slight edge, to macsen crumbling to pieces in one turn....
a gamey attempt at some nasty germans defending for their life...great one for the historians! Nice effort Macsen...i really thought i was going down, until i withstood your knights...then i figured i had a chance. moral....don't fight up hill :|

Division F: Landwehr (Early Hoplite) defeats MikeK (Lowland Gallic) in a hard fought game 32/40 to 39/36.

Midway through it looked like the Gallic HF was going to break my line and inflict a crushing defeat, but just enough spears held firm to turn the tide in melee. One point of note: at the end, a unit of Gallic families was still in its second turn of fighting even though it had been attacked from three sides by hoplites, even a superior one from the rear. Tough kids. :P

Last few days - any problems?

If you have a game that has stalled, or an opponent you cannot contact, please let me know immediately and I will try to help. There are only a few more days of the tournament left now, it will close on Sunday !0th August. Players can apply for a short 3 day extension if required. Second extensions will not be given in any circumstances as I want to wrap this season up promptly so I can concentrate on The Slitherine Trophy. Thanks.
