Ceek wrote:I don't understand the inclusion of Dieppe as an integral component of the '42 campaign. There's no way your core from the Stalingrad scenario would have been able to participate in both scenarios. Also, Dieppe was not a major battle nor was it fought w/ the types of front line units you'd be bringing from the Eastern Front. In addition, it's highly unlikely those same units who'd just been shipped w/ major time and expense across the continent to fight at Dieppe would suddenly find themselves sent back to Stalingrad to liberate the 6th army. In sum, the inclusion of Dieppe, while an interesting idea, doesn't make much sense, particularly in its current status as a linchpin scenario between two interconnected Eastern Front battles.
I included Dieppe with a reason: a fallback for several scenario's (loss) instead of quit game, a smaller map, less enemy units, a break from Stalin's boys. Only a fraction of the core can be deployed in this scenario. Let's say your best units who , as the player, are allowed a vacation in france before returning to Stalingrad but it turned out a little different. At least then there is one scenario in 1942 to play against the allies and their brandnew churchill tanks.
I'm certain that the guys doing the playtests, and they are doing great btw, will have a couple of suggestions. First i was thinking to make this scenario with auxiliaries only (and 1 new core unit preplaced), but i'll wait till i get some feedback.

Thank you for your insights, it is much appreciated.

I understand Ceeks opinion and i have to agree!

Maybe this would better idea in logical terms. So after you loose one of the russians map, at first you abandoned your core units to fight and "non core unit"-battle in Dieppe. After a victory you receive maybe 1 or 2 new core units from Dieppe!
These units you can take to your (probably heavy damaged) core units and reinforce their strength in russia.
But if you win all 4 russians battles (before) Dieppe, you have an mostly intact core and get as reward for so much winning in russia the dieppe-core-units on top!
Seems legit to me!

Bear with me:
1) A loss in winteroffensive moscow will lead to Dieppe, no longer to Sevastopol (ok?)...i posted the latest flowchart a bit higher/also included in the download you got
2) Dieppe will be rescripted with auxies only
3) A DV in Stalingrad will take you to "Liberate the 6th army" + 2 preplaced core units...an early Tiger I and a prototype SPAT maybe?
4) A MV/Loss in Stalingrad will take you to Dieppe
5) If you get a DV in Dieppe you will receive 2 preplaced core units when you start "Liberate the 6th army"
6) If you get a MV/Loss in Dieppe you will receive nothing

What do you think?

Finished the Spain map on my way to Gibraltar. The map is really nice. What is perhaps lacking is a air defense unit in Gibraltar. As it is now, you can attack easily Gibraltar from air without fear of retaliation.

This map is really a nice add to the campaign tree, and for another time, railways were really useful.

Thanks for the work.

1) okay but i saw no problem with the constellation before
2) sounds better
3 & etc)
i think you missunderstood me (maybe because of my poor english grammar ^^)
Let me try again:

I thought the flowchart you posted looks very good and personally i would not change that.
Only that you should not able to use your core units in Dieppe was my suggestion. I thought about something like in norway. You get at the beginning 2 core units and if they survive you can add them to your core.

If you win in Stalingrad you should go to Dieppe anymay (i dont think the allies changed their invasion plans after a russian loss).
BUT if you win (maybe only DV) in Stalingrad, you should skip the "Liberate 6th army"-scenario (seems logic) and proceed to Rostov.
Liberate the 6th Army should be an hard scenario. So that skipping this map is like a reward for your core, not get heavy damaged.

I hope my suggestions are clearer now :)

Yes, i got it. Just check if the proposed scenario flowchart is as you had in mind.

Stalingrad (DV) ->Dieppe1 (DV/MV/Loss) -> Rostov
Stalingrad (MV/Loss) ->Dieppe2(DV/MV/Loss) -> Liberate the 6th Army

Dieppe2 will start with 2 preplaced core units since it was stated to get them as a kind of reward. If you have any preference for those 2 units, let me know.
Dieppe1 will start with 1 preplaced core unit otherwise i don't think anyone wants to play this scenario if there is no possible reward.
Dieppe1 is the map for all russian scenarios you lose.

Ah, so Dieppe is just a "Meanwhile, on the Western Front..." scenario. Got it.

I think that's fine then taking place w/ purely auxiliary units as you described w/ a couple core units being added to your Eastern Front army as a reward depending on your level of success. I like that the number of units awarded to your core depends upon your level of success, too. That should provide the player sufficient incentive to play through it. I hope that the scenario is kept small scale (small map, small number of units/turns) because then you're really giving the player a respite from the sprawling Eastern Front style maps and making the challenge (one of repelling an amphibious invasion) quite distinct from the other scenarios in terms of strategy, too.

Thanks for considering our input. I look forward to trying the scenarios soon!

Video previews.
I am a Deducter AAR fan and i like to watch his recordings. Everybody can benefit from watching them. He is afterall a great and experienced player. I decided to contact him for help about recording.
Thanks to his help, i am glad that i managed to record something on my own now.

There will be something new after GTPG. This video preview shows the first 2 rounds of the first scenario of "Red Fury".

Just a quick remark on the flowchart. It indicates BessErabia, but the name is BessArabia.

Thanks for the comments on the AAR!

Your video quality looks good. Just remember it often takes YouTube some time, up to 24 hours, to process the HD mode, so immediately after uploading you often can't get access to higher resolutions.

I have looked at some information for your mod, it is certainly a lot of work and very impressive.

One thing is that I notice on the screenshots and in your video that the maps are fairly barren, in that they don't have terrain decorations. While this has no influence on gameplay, I think it would be nice to add some for aesthetic reasons. Also, I notice that a lot of the terrain is laid out in a homogenous pattern, which may be more realistic, but from a gameplay perspective it is less interesting, as there are fewer opportunities to pull off clever tactics. One good thing about the DLCs is that there is always a huge variety in terms of terrain even in a small area, so that even a small 5x5 hex region is often varied and detailed. I think having more varied terrain is very important for gameplay reasons.

Good to know about the HD mode. I was trying it after the upload and i saw no difference.

Until know i am glad how to make a map, work out a scenario. I do admit, the maps could be better, the DLC maps are detailed in comparison. Perhaps i should do a map overhaul in the future after i got some Flak lessons ;).
Thanks Deducter :).

Just finished the Bessarabia map for the first time (after a voluntary MV in Leningrad). The map is really an interesting, fast moving map. The enemy forces are perhaps a bit too easy, but it is true that my core forces are becoming quite good.

A side note:
If you go through Leningrad, you can have a 4th SE unit, when the limit for this scenario is 3...
Concerning the flowchart, what is strange is that you are already in Kiev/Leningrad and after that you start to invade Bessarabia/Odessa. Would it not be better if these operations would be before Kiev/Leningrad ? Typically, winning in Odessa could take you to Kiev or Leningrad...

The SE unit will be set to 4, eventually for Odessa also.
Seems HQ4L cut you to the chase because it was his suggestion to be able to move to Bessarabia after Kiev/Leningrad.

It is just that Bessarabia was captured between June and July 41. Kiev battle was in August-September 41. Siege of Odessa was from August to October, and the siege of Leningrad started in September. As a result, have Bessarabia after Kiev/Leningrad is really strange...

Finished the Odessa map. Really nice. The south is all about movement when the North is entrenched combat. I like it.
The Russian air force was quite a burden, especially when approaching Odessa, as overstrengthed planes take time to kill.

What would you think of this flowchart?
After Barbarossa you get the choice to either go to Bessarabia or Pskov. Certain results in Leningrad/Kiev no longer go to Bessarabia but to Odessa instead.

I find it nice, but I would perhaps make that winning in Bessarabia could take you to Kiev (it is in the area) instead of directly to Odessa. But it is also good for me as it is now.
I really like this complex flowchart. It is so much better as a purely linear one, such as in the DLC...

I never thought that campaign tree discussion would be so interesting.

In this proposal a DV in Bessarabia will take you to Kiev, a MV to Odessa and a Loss to Winteroffensive Kerch.
What do you think?
