I like the idea of collecting the order of battle on the map to be moved into position
That has worked well for me in a number of scenarios as well. Over the years you kind of establish a sequence when creating a scenario.
1-rails, 2-paved roads, 3-rivers, 4-trakcs, 5-town flags, 6-location names, 7-gold flags, 8-silver flags, 9-airfields, 10-ports etc.

Yes, mea culpa. My apologies; in my excitement I got ahead of myself. I meant U.S. and Great Britain. And Free France, by the way, in which campaign I am making progress once again. It took some time to get traction going, but it's moving forward now.

I am using this map in a pop-up message to explain Bir Hakeim as part of the bigger Battle of Gazala:

and I am using this map, from a kind Steam community member, as my template:

with this map providing the detail of the fort that I have built:

So, yes, my intention is to zoom in and feature only the Free French in their fight against Axis forces in this scenario.

First four scenarios are complete (for now).
Free France 1940-1945 (four scenarios)
Work is ongoing on the next scenario, Operation Exporter, the Allied Syria–Lebanon Campaign. This is a huge theater of operations and I feel the need to scale things down a bit after Keren-Massawa, so I am concentrating on the end of the OE campaign: the drive for Damascus and Beirut.

Wonderful, I'll try this fourth scenario as soon as possible!
Huge thanks

A template that Erik provided has come in very handy for Operation Exporter (thanks, Erik). It was way too big but a cropping of Palmyra in the northeast to Tyre in the southwest proved to be ideal, incorporating all of the important sites of the campaign. This map came out really nice, thanks to the template and a bit of embellishment.

So far, I've already managed to play a good part of this fourth scenario.
It's awesome; in short,
just great!
For example, I discovered the existence of these famous monasteries... I also really like the idea of these units that can be deployed and how it was implemented. The mechanics around our two airstrips work well, as do the triggers related to the monasteries, etc.

I have already several suggestions (
some events and others
), I have noted as well several very little details... but I will soon run out of time for now

and, especially with the Christmas period, will not be able to make much progress in the days to come.
In any case, I find that an important point is that 48 turns is not enough!
The map is splendid, but big (which in itself is very good). Yet, it often happens that some tanks, artillery or engineers advance only one hex per turn... The relief is rough (again, that's fine, it's historical!).
It's only on the 31st turn that the objective "Capture Kub Kub, Keren, and Asmara" was filled... and still, the resistance around Asmara was still present.
From Asmara to the East, the road is rather narrow... ideal for traffic jams.
(
) After the 40th turn, the troops almost start to reach, no, rather to begin to "see" the surroundings of Massawa in the distance... And this place is very strongly defended!
So... Time to finish getting closer, to gather enough forces, to engage and win this last battle...
No, 48 laps is too little (
and I don't think I was particularly slow in this scenario, although I certainly could have done better here and there).
But
how many more laps would it take?
That's the question I'm asking myself right now.

I have to finish this test, maybe I'll run another one, to be sure... I will see.
(
Finally, I'm now using OoB v8.6.5!)
In any case, I won't be able to do much in the coming days.
I've carefully noted my observations, but since I can't give complete feedback now, I didn't want to stay silent too long either...
Anyway, this fourth scenario confirms it, this campaign is going to be simply magnificent.
Well done, already!
Well, well, well.
If ever, to everyone and with a little bit of advance, I wish you all a
Merry Christmas!

That occurred to me about the turns; as always, it's a function of two things: map size and the amount of enemy units to overcome.
Keren to Massawa is rather high on both counts. Please give me your recommendation on the number of turns and I will adopt it.
In the meantime, use the cheat code for more turns: ALT+C, #overtime [number of additional turns]
The upcoming
Operation Exporter will be a smaller map with less units so it should be fine and a bit of a relief after that slog toward Massawa.
Bir Hakeim is shaping up to be even smaller, as I am zooming in on that episode.
P.S. - There are Crusader castles and other ancient ruins in
Operation Exporter. Some for fun, some just for interest's sake.
Merry Christmas to you, mon Colonel!

Tortured logic here. A full-blown identity crisis.
Using Italian Cavalry under the French flag to represent Algerian, Moroccan, and Tunisian Spahis fighting for Vichy.
