At the beginning of the battle, I must say I was a little bit apprehensive as Ray had deployed a mass of knights. My missile troops, knights and the war wagon managed to do enough damage to win the game but if I hadn't, the score would have been much closer. Good battle.

As the Germanics with Romans have a very strong cavalry supported by some tough as nails infantry, the pre-battle planning was a bit difficult for Rome. Head on the superior close-order warbands would be extremely hard to tackle, while the Roman cavalry would have a hard time to have a fighting chance with the Germanic cavalry. The solution was to bring in all artillery available from the army-list, and hope the warbands wouldn't immediatly rush in so that the artillery would be able to empty their clips before the melee, while focusing the cavalry on the left flank and the camels on the right. On the right the camels wouldn't have a chance vs the hostile cav if they came in masse, but hopefully the camels would be able to pull as many cav away from the battle as possible. On left hopefully the cavalry disparity wouldn't be that bad, and the hostile cav to be held off long enough for center to win the fight.
Once the battle began, it went all awry with the camels, as they were chased off the field, but some condolence came from the fact that the germanics used all their cav on the flank to do that, so at least the camels bought time for the rest of the Roman army. On left the cavalry battle went all chaotic (as was to be expected) but eventually for Romans fell apart as the elite roman Clibanirii routed (one Germanic cav at Fragmented held and held on even bouncing off two charges of Roman light cav, and then as more germanic cav joined in the Clibanirii were just overwhelmed). In center things however went splendidly, as the Germanic warbands tidely sat put on a hill and recieved all 15 rounds from the three arty emptying their clips, plus loads and loads of skirmisher missiles; once the legions climbed up the hill the weakened warbands just collapsed. In the end it was just a slug-fest, where the germanic cavalry hunted and killed the roman artillery and wekened troops, while the romans surrounded and destroyed the remains of germanic infantry.
Thank you SawyerK for a very intense and fun match, your attitude and commentary definitively makes you one of the best players to be playing with

anderarcos11 Low countries 1488-1500 AD draw with Jtrillodmp Lithuanian 1455-1500 with Tatar, 53 to 53.
I think it is already my third draw. It seems that the defensive positions of the low countryes are very scary. In several cases I have had to abandon them and advance so as not to both end up with very few points.

defeated
Rosedelio Lithuanian 1100-1299 with Teutonic allies
47-22
Sword Brethren flanks protected by woods on left and right, Lithuanians could occupy the high ground. Lithuanian right advanced with skirmishers and medium cavalry and they were met by the Sword Brethren advancing from the woods. Some Lithuanian skirmishers were chased down and a combined force of Knights and Baltic tribes swarmed onto the high ground. Sword Brethren took heavy casualties from the Lithuanian dismounted bowmen, but managed to get into melee fairly quick which avoided the arrows. The Lithuanian centre was mainly dismounted bowmen and they advanced to get into range vs the Sword Bretren spearmen on the open ground. Lithuanians got too close to the woods on the flank and their covering cavalry was shot up by light archers, enabling the medium foot to emerge and threaten the Lithuanian left. The battle on the left was inconclusive - although Lithuanians were in the ascendency as their cavalry returned for some flank attacks.
The Sword Brethren centre stood up to the missile fire and was able to engage the Lithuanians who were disadvantaged in melees in the open; Sword Brethren Knights executed some extremely successful charges with multiple double drops in cohesion breaking the Lithuanians to the 25pt margin - thus was important as SwordBrethren right was creaking and if the Lithuanians had another turn the match would have gone on for much longer. GG.

On the very open field, the Lithuanian cav managed to distract and get around the mass of Scottish infantry. Meanwhile, the center of archers and knights managed to punch through the weakened Scottish center without worry of being flanked.

SawyerK leading the German FT 260-599 AD army with Roman ally
defeated mh5064 with the Roman 24 BC to 196 AD army by 61-40.
A large lake cut off one-third of the map leading the Germans to post their entire heavy cavalry on the opposite side. That caused the Romans to advance obliquely to defend against flank attacks, which led in turn to initial limited engagement between Superior Warbands and Roman Legionnaires. Roman pushbacks led to some flank attacks and that proved the onloy method of slowing the Legionnaires down. Both armies were running on fumes by the game's end, but the German cavalry proved decisive.

Both armies came at each other hammer and tongs with a constant push of pikes and flanking cavalry squadrons. Just before the sun would set for the final turn, Seleucid pushed Macedonian past their breaking point first. A tense and intense battle of Successors. Thanks to my diligent opponent for a great game.
