SPQR - Important answers to good questions

A couple more questions:

1) Are consuls eligible for governorships or only non-consuls. (Historically I think they wouldn't but figured I'd check. Any votes earned for being consul?)

2) Can you be consul for multiple terms sequentially? Historically normally not would be my interpretation.

3) What happens if there are two proposals for declaration of war on the same party? Does that send two consular armies. Is there a spearate vote for which consul leads a consular army since a declaration of war could conceivably be posed by a non-consul. Or should the consul to lead the army be proposed along with the declaration of war?

Chris

Hi Chris.

Good questions.

Only those who don´t belong to the roman magistrate ( Consuls, Praetors, Quaestors, Tribunes etc..) can be nominated for governorship.

A Consul will get 1 pts awarded for every week in this rank, like every other roman that holds an "imperium" ( Consul, Praetor, Proconsul, Pro-Praetor).
That rule will be in effect with the setup of the new Senate.
Points will be awarded on Sunday´s now.

A citizen can be nominated for Consul again, but there must be an interruption of 1 year ( in the game one month).

This Magistrate will be in charge until May 1st, the next election will start on May 1st.

In case of a Declaration of war or any other engagement the two Consuls should come to a mutual agreement who leads the Proconsular Army.

Be aware of the fact, there will be meetings of the Senate throughout the timeframe from March 31th-April 30th and all commaders outside Italy are not eligible to vote !!

Cheers, Klaus

Who gets to decide on the other participants on the war declaration(sub commanders)? Do the consols decide them? And can chosen people refuse the job? Like, suppose, I wanted to get rid of some political enemies, I could order them to fight in the war, so they can't vote against my agendas later on?

Hi Klaus

Tiavals has a good point. I had a quck look over the agendas etc and I might be tempted to do the same thing.

Just wondering because the winning margin was only by 5. Were coalitions in existence at that time. Most famous coalition in British history was when all parties banded together to face the worst threat ever, Nazi Germany. I would think based on circumstances in this campaign, that is something to consider.

Urgent news:

The Celtic Scordisci and the Dacians are now at war!

The German Suebi tribe has invaded the territory of the Aeduii!

Klaus and I will handle these events. 4 battles will be fought. The Senate will be kept informed.

Hi Klaus,

Couldn't the Consul be reelected without 1 year of interruption on his charge? That happened historically with Gaius Marius. Maybe under an emergency law?

Cheers!

SPQR

There was another example for a Consul who was in charge without a year of interruption, but I can´t remember details.
However, we´ll stick to the Republican constitution, so it will be prohibited.

Yes, every citizen of Rome can turn down an offer to take command of a legion, governorship of a province etc.., but that might end up in a new attribute....

The Consul in charge will assign subcommanders.

Hi Klaus

Question 2. After much googling the answer is Anon.Although having checked histories found out it may have been from Italy. I think about 85 to 83 BC, possible orator of such a famous quote, Ericus Domanicus LOL

Yes, but what if he goes off to war and wins a great victory?

If one cannot discourse like a gentleman, perhaps you should hire a Greek grammarian to assist you? Perhaps one of the Consuls should send his lictors to your villa to teach you some manners...

Sound the clarion! Attention please:

Threats to the Roman frontier from the wild Dacians and Suebi are worsening. Full conflict is underway with neighboring tribes; these are not mere raids but a major strategic movement. Both the Scordisci and Aeduii are at imminent risk of being overrun. Take note; Roman arms may soon be called to these desolate provinces.

Expect further news soon.

I received a pm from Fedem and now from Eric. I rarely play FoG now, but I did read this forum to establish what commitment I had to make, what expansions I'd need and what format armies I'd have to create and play, but having scrolled through pages of announcements, chat and so on (all good stuff I'm sure) I couldn't actually find anything that would explain the game to me. Can someone point me in the right place to assess whether I want to make this commitment?

Cheers,
Morbio

Hi Morbio.

Please read the first 2 posts of this threat and contact me afterwards by PM. I´ll give you an explanation.
It´s really simple. We´ve created hundreds of posts, although the campaign runs for only 1 month.
Guess that says all, we are really having fun.

Feel free to send a PM.

Cheers, Klaus

I've re-read (skimmed) the 1st post and re-read the 2nd post and nowhere does it answer the fundamental questions;
- What expansions?
- What size armies?
- What frequency of games, number of games per month?

The players only need RoR.

Hail Morbio,

Glad to see you around.

Yu only need the ROR expansion.
Size of Armies depends on the battle, etc.
Games per month are of course not fixed but they are not overwelming so I think you should be fine. It doesnt take too much time.

Cheers!
