In Paphlagonia, after a Seleucid unit rallied, the Seleucids now have a commanding lead, after being in the losing position for three turns, and little seems to be able to stop them from getting to 60%
the battleground at the base of the hill, Seleucids are yellow but not running away!

The Pontic archers patiently waiting behind the impassible river finally got something to shoot at, only to find they were out of range. What can be wrong?
the Pontic archers have been waiting safe and secure on the other side of the river but without a target

Sorry Aryaman, in fact I didn't notice that you've already built sanctuaries.
The effect so is a downgrading of sanctuaries to temples, but you unfortuntely loose anyway 1 prestige level and 1 VP, that were already subtracted yesterday from your total score.

A messenger has arrived from Fergana announcing that the resistance of the masters of that province was finally overcome by the pious prayers of the warrior monks sent there to spread the true doctrines of the Buddha.

This fertile valley and his famous pastures, where fierce stallions known all over the world are bred, are now part of the Mauryan Empire and its people rejoyces in every boroughs and towns!

Pontus is about to become extinct, it is on 59% but at least the archers on the other side of the hill proved their mettle by routing an enemy archer unit on the other side of the river in one turn of shooting. The enemy xystophoroi unit is fragmented and on 50% casualties but that's the only chance of success left to Pontus, a pike unit would have to go to win the game. I had another pike unit outflanked but couldn't charge it from front and rear on the same turn, and it went into square before I could charge, resulting in both units that attacked it being destroyed.
BLAM! the archers destroy the Seleucid archers on the other side of the river, but too late to save the day

I had great difficulty understanding how ZOCs work, and was always finding that I couldn't charge units for no apparent reason. To resolve all this I have created a video that explains how ZOCs work, how they protect your troops, and what you can do to get around them or to remove them. This includes some pictures taken from this thread as examples, I hope nobody minds. https://youtu.be/TEK7W1AfdzE

Don't loose confidence Vakarr, Pontus is far from extinct!
Also if loosing this battle it will only decrease to a stability level of 3, which will only prevent the chance of launching independent or external attacks.

Ok then, I invade Colchis ((Col) now, before the battle finishes!

The battle in Sophene goes well for the Armenians but winning that won't help me survive.

There needs to be a way to permanently upgrade your army (eg to a later version of it); my most frequent opponent has an army that completely outclasses my own and there's nothing I can do about it (except perhaps getting favourable terrain, which I haven't had yet). I would suggest the capture of a particular province and/or a large payment of some sort.

1. Challenge for vakarr, battle in Colchis for his invading Pontics v Colchians (Iberians) pw Sheepy

2. The Senate wearily orders yet another attack on Trinacria; the saga continues once a new enemy commander takes over those beastly Syracusans and offers battle.

In the end, the Seleucid army defeated the Pontic army and completed the conquest of Paphlagonia. It was a close run, and some Seleucid veterans comment "These are no longer the old Pontics"

The Romans actually are not able to launch a land attack having in their coffin only 20t.
Firstly they should try to increase their finances!

Thought there was stacks in the opening bank - must be confusing this with another campaign.

Defensive is probably safer anyway - I'm jinxed on that island. :(

You can make a Tax Increase action in order to gain 70t while loosing 1 stability level

That's not possible because the rules state that: "The Capital provinces cannot be conquered, which allows players with less provinces to remain in the game also if having lost their little territory."
You may instead attack Cappadocia ...
