Considering the amount of smileys or should I say "angrys" you must be ultra pissed with the games end.....
Two words: "Extended Cut"...the free DLC Bioware released after thousands of protests..its 1.8 GB but seems to deal with
some of the annoyment and inconsistencys

I've played with all the DLC and Extended Cut. I don't imagine how it was without it. But I suppose things would even be worst.
The principle it's wrong. It's an RPG and not a movie. It's a SP game not a MP.
I can't be more specific, chris, without getting into spoilers.
I'm sad and angry. :x

I know...the linear (levels and story) approach and truckload of cutscenes is what really annoys me in general with Biowares Mass Effect and Dragon Age...

Yes it's true, but I really wasn't referring exactly to that. I can live with the cut scenes and let me go through a more emotional guided approach.
The problem is that the end should reflect all my choices. It's an RPG. I've felt I was guided to an ending that didn't reflect my choices. I end up having the feeling that I've just played an interactive movie.
With the original Deus Ex, although with a similar approach as far as I remember, I haven't felt that way.
And then there's the plot itself. Sorry I've to say this, but I was always expecting to be playing a space opera and not a Greek tragedy. Here I have the sense that I can't escape my own fate.
So I thought I was playing with Ulysses all through the series and in the end I discovered I was playing with Achilles. :x
I felt very frustrated... and mad with the end.

Mass Effect was one of the most amazing gaming experiences I've ever had. Epic.

From what I've heard I could survive without playing 2 or 3... as one can survive without watching Godfather III

Ahah.
The first ME is the best, IMO. But the other titles in the series, have also very enjoyable moments, specially for a Science Fiction (books) fan like I am.
You should play them if you like the first one. Only when reach the final, just pretend that the ending is different.   :x :x :x :x
But who knows maybe you'll end up liking it. There are people who don't have any problem with it.
I've never watched Godfather III. There is always something telling me that I wasn't going to like it.

What particular type of SF do you like? Any favorite authors?

Don't have a particular type. It can be hard, cyberpunk, alternative, post-apocalyptic, etc. As for the authors, the list is big, but if I had to name only one, I would choose Philip K. Dick. The quality of his work is outstanding. I won't say Frank Herbert, because it wouldn't be fair... he only wrote the best science fiction trilogy... Dune. The rest of his work is banal, at least those I've read.
If you want to continue the conversation, you can do it by PM.

clean up the stickys and throw everything related with maps into one topic as there are various stickys for maps....like the mods topic..I mean there are stickys in here where nobody posted since a year...with all due respect this is not stickyworthy anymore...so a clean up is due..and then stick another topic: Soldiers Pub or whatever :P ...not for the forum as a whole but for the subforum

oh..and btw..there are to much stickys and they are not seperated clearly enough...Bebros tutorial can also go into the mods topic under tutorial...so new room becomes available

btw..among my favorites are Asimovs: Foundation Trilogy (this is stuff for another star wars like screen adaption)...
I like Hubbards early stuff...(before he went nuts with Scientology)...Poul Anderson, Marion Zommer Bradley, Llyod Biggle Jr.
I love J. Michael Straczynski for the most awesome and immersive SF TV-series ever...Babylon 5 beats Star Treck by lightyears
(I have the Babylon 5 Box with all movies and the TV show)
then there are also William S. Burroughs, Arthur C. Clarke, Clark Darlon and K.H.Scheer for inventing the greatest SF series ever: Perry Rhodan,
ahhh..list could simpley go on and on :D

So many classics I love ... and I hear you on the Babylon 5 call, I watched all of it at least 3 times already :) But you guys should consider some new talent and try some Peter F. Hamilton, Alastair Reynolds, Iain Banks or Dan Simmons. But we digress.

William S. Burroughs, chris? I would never classified him as a SF writer. But I agree that these lines aren't so clear.
IMO, the best Sci-Fi show was Battlestar Galactica (the new one). I was never been able to watch over the first episodes of B5. Maybe one day I'll try again. So next in my heart is Star Trek (TOS).
Beam me up, Scotty. :P
Peter Hamilton is already in my Kindle. Probably I will read first "The Void" trilogy, but that only after finish reading the George Martin's 5 volumes (so far) of "A Song of Ice and Fire" series.

NEW GAME MECHANIC

NO MORE HOVER OVER ENEMY UNIT TO KNOW HOW MUCH FUEL AND AMMO IT HAS LEFT CHEAT and then destroy it with multiple attacks............... :P
I removed the dynamic info in order to find out how much supply enemy units still have available as normally nobody could know.
By hoovering over enemy units you only see the max fuel and max ammo the unit can have and its entrenchment if this applys but its
actual supply situation remains hidden for the player as it should be
To know your own units stats you have to click on them...since low ammo and fuel have their own warning icons this is pretty acceptable
considering the increase in immersion and realism :D

NEW GAME CONCEPT

Air Wings exercise a zone of control in PzC East. This enables effective protective fighter screens for targets
or bigger army corps units...however it will make it more difficult to penetrate enemy fighter screens too.
It will add a new (old) tactical and strategic level to air war on a great scale map.
Air Zoc is an old PG mechanic and somewhat inappropiate for the small PzC maps but the right thing for the big PzC East
Map as it allows to effectivly establish and model air superiority in certain areas...for either side
Screen shows german fighters or bombers unable to penetrate soviet fighter screen

This tweak (Air ZOCs) I like ~ it's rather akin to CAPs. Seems a more realistic tool for a Corp Commander to employ.

Stupid questions: An enemy's aircraft exerts a ZOC that halts my plane before reaching the intended target:
[*]will this also trigger an automatic attack against my aircraft?
[*]if my aircraft has the recon trait found in Mongo's Mondo Mod, may it proceed if it has movement points left?
[*]what effect, if any, does the FOW have on your newest tweak? I'm guessing that when I fly near that previously unseen pesky Bolshevik pilot, I'm toast for completing my sortie and...
