For the last 2-3 years GW has been and fans of it have been referring to the "hobby of GW, of WHFB, of 40K, of LoTRs etc. etc". GW does seem to wish to present itself as THE hobby......Wargaming was and still is THE hobby.

That said.....FoG was and is a part of the hobby of wargaming. It's (FoG) not presented as the only choice, nor as a seperate "hobby". Wargaming has been around for a longtime, even as a hobby.

I will be shopping on the net for copies of the latest suppliment. My regular opponents and I will be drooling on our own copies of it......VERY SOON.

Aussie was getting them early and us Kiwis were taking advantage (as we often do with our slow witted neighbours ).

Instead I am having to order through Amazon, they shipped today by the way.

It is a shame because I would like to support local gaming establishments (apart from casinos) but the wait is to long. Also numerous studies have shown that painting figures is both easier and faster with an actual army list in the house, in fact the figures sometimes paint themselves (or each other) overnight, quite a sight

No sign of the book over here yet, Osprey have not got the copies to our local store yet grrrrrr.

Must be a case of +1 for being English, or at least Anglo-Danish.

They are Average, Undrilled, in BGs of 4-6 and there are limitations of troops you can have with them. I reckon you could get a 20 BG army at 800 points from the list. I'm looking forward to seeing how it does

But note that you cannot use this version of the army in a "Wolves from the Sea" theme tournament as it is dated after 1040 AD and hence not permitted in the theme.

And, of course, BG of 4 Undrilled Average HF with OSp are really fast and manoeuvrable, "almost like foot cavalry" (with concrete boots).

BTW, for those that wonder why the BGs are 4-6, they are dismounted (poor) Cavalry Select Fyrd, permitted only in 1055. Normally the select fyrd are in BGs of 6-8.

Aside fom the marvellous Earl Ralph (aka Sir Robin I presume), there is also the Norse-Irish, shieldless MI/LMI with 2HCW.....who needs armour!

I assume the Carolngian Frankish "horse archers" should be a choice between Superior Drilled or Undrilled. Not Quality: Average or Drilled - Training: Undrilled

I'm not complaining (as I have one othese armies!), but I do feel that the Anglo Danish list has been rather generously treated. Leaving the Ralph the Timed option aside (as discussed above). Classing the Select Fyrd as armoured puts them at a distinct advantage against the Viking Freeman - to me doesn't seem quite right. Viking Freeman, Rus Spearmen and Earlier Saxon 'Quality' Fyrd can only manage Protected.

Nice book though - my favourite. The quality of the painted figures is much better in this volume! (although fried egg eye does have its charm )

Yes, that one slipped through. They should be Superior Drilled/Undrilled indeed.

This discussion just increases my anticipation at the arrival of my copy, due shortly

Benefit of being one of the richest kingdoms in Europe at the time I guess - note the equipment requirements.
