Bleck. I love the title. But until you unleash the pasty faced europeans this is just so uninteresting to me. I say that respectfully as I know not everyone likes every one elses army choices. I can understand almost every other period, but pre-columbians just does not connect for me. Oh well. Hope you all enjoy them.

As they say, Your Mileage May Vary. Me, I'm interested--wonder exactly which armies will be included.?The usual suspects no doubt: Aztecs, Tlaxcalans, Mayan, Ancient Peru. Wonder if there will be much representation from north of the Rio Grande?

Thanks! I missed this. They even include my region, the Pacific Northwest. Looks like there will be some 'armies' from north of the Rio Grande

I may not have the answer as to what makes these armies interesting from a historical gaming perspective, I find the armies interesting based on their look, and history. I just find the New world civilizations interesting--suppose in part because this is "my neck of the woods" (well, at least the Northwest U.S is, plus I've been to the plains and eastern woodlands.) The Aztecs and Mayans have always seemed very colorful. Game wise the jury is out until I see the lists

The interesting features to me are:

- it's a 'what if?' region. What military evolutions would occur if you didn't use wheels, horses or metals? Human ingenuity is such that they found other very effective ways of chopping each other up.

- the history is fascinating and different. City states blossom into empires that wax and wane. Maintainining an emopire with primitive logistics is really hard so many implode under their own weight.

- some seriously cool general's names. What's not to like about Smoking Frog, Obsidian Serpent and the Master of the House of Darts?

- it's one of the few stone (ish) age societies that is so well documented. It's like the ancient near east, only in colour.

- the troop types can be really eye catching. People in animal suits coloured with the feathers of tropical birds. Huge feather standards worn on the back. Carved wooden animal head helmets. Weapons made of glass. Like Samurai in an acid dream!

- they're all doomed. What you know and they don't is that Spaniards, steel and smallpox are coming.

- Ever played a stone age army against a late medieval army?. Ever wondered what would really have happened? Ever felt it could only happen in a wargame? Not so. The Spanish are not that much different to how they were in 1499. The Americans are pre-chariot.

Prior to the Old Worlders coming over, the Americas were not just pre-chariot, they were pre-horse.
