Anyway, back to topic. In my editing I am finding that these dates are best set as encompassing the year(s) of the campaign, from 1/1/19XX to 1/1/19YY. Above all, the end date should be ending year +1 to ensure that the specialisations window shows the entire time period. Under no circumstances should the start and end dates be the same year.
So for example, Morning Sun begins in July 1937 and ends in August 1940. These dates work well (of course, this start date should be the same on the Specialisations Tab):

I'll amend this a bit to be, in essence, "according to taste." Here's Erik's New Britain campaign with the dates a bit too narrow (1/1/1943 - 1/1/1945) even though the campaign begins in December 1943 and ends in March 1944:

Add a year backwards to the start date (1/1/1942 - 1/1/1945) and now it's apparent that Landing Craft Tank requires Landing Craft Infantry first:

It's a bit of artistry here. I have learned much about the campaign editor today.
