Hey just wanted to pop in and say I love your mod, and ask a question --

How quickly do you think you'll release an update for Rise of Persia? The tabletop mod (and your submod) is so good I can hardly play vanilla.

Thanks

the last version of TTmod+ works fine with the rise of persia patch

I will make new whields for the new thracians and I have already made new skins for the latin states, but I do not think to do much more because the persian area do not seems to need it

Yeah no I actually meant combining the new army lists into your awesome submod. Like I want to be able to play Assyrians versus your modified Late Germanic armies in the sandbox.

Right now if I want to play Babylon or Assyria I have to use the Field of Glory II vanilla campaign moduel

You need to delete

CampaignDisplay.BSF

and

CampaignDisplay.txt

from /Data/UI in the cloned TT Mod+ folder.

They are the campaign UI scripts, and stop custom battles modules from working correctly.

Feedback: (negative)

Polybian rome is OP
Reason: pedites extraordinari
when those 2 pedites (v large) are combined with 6 other veteran principes/hastati and when 3 or 4 generals are put into those 6+2=8 units, they can wreck almost anything , not to mention that ordinary hastati/principes are also a tough unit

Naked warriors/gaestae

in my opinion that skin is not good enough, not because they are naked, but because it lacks stuff
they should look better and richer

quick Suggestion: give them helmet and bigger shields, distinguish them more

macedonia:

while i am a big fanboy of macedonia i 'd have to argue that they are OP. that 1 unit of Agema + Above average chalkaspides pikemen + the fact that they have access to alot of superior pikes aka peltastai makes them OP imo
i am honestly not sure what can be done to change this, since they can easily fall into being underpowered if changed too much ESPECIALLY if they are against TT rome which has 2pedites and 6 veteran hastati/rprincipes
but when they face others, the phalanx is just almost too strong. for example greeks just die to the macedonian phalanx

Thureophoroi/thorakitai in general (texture)

i find them too generic. would it be possible to give each major faction unique thureophoroi tunic color ,like seleucids could have grey or yellow , macedonians could have red ones etc
i know this is not historical , but lets be honest, fog2 skins are far from historical, they have table top feel so thats ok. we dont need to try to reach certain historical threshold when we cant get even close to it (like having each pike figure having moderately to slightly different armor)

but from a table top point of view, giving specific colours to thureophoroi is justified

Marian rome helmets:

they looked better before, now they look weird , whats that spike on top of it

Cretan archers:

shouldnt cretan archers have small shields and be lightly protected or protected?

Bosporans:

i think they had better archers than portrayed in both vanila and TT mod. something similar to cretans, like lightly or protected + shields

in general : units like paeonian irregular foot, just dont look good enough. TT mod improves vanila fog but some things are just rushed like gaestae or paeonians

Suggestion: flags

i think the following factions should have their unique flags or emblems , call it what you like

1.Macedonia/antigonids
2.Rome
3.Carthage
4.Seleucids
5.Ptolemaics
6.Bactrians
7.Iberians (bit more difficult)
8.Gauls
9.Galatians
10.Germans
11.Parthians
12.Samnite
13.Phyric
14.Dacian
15.Thracian
16.Indian

edit: greeks of course

why these? because they have respectable rosters (some more than others), rest of the army lists are not worthy of a flag (forgive me if i forgot to include some other respectable factions, but i think thats it)

Stick to my original TT Mod. I agree with you about the Pedites, in my version they are just Superior Italian Foot.

Well, I am sorry. I am only a gifted (?) amateur doing the best I can. I have no 3d skills so I am unable to give them helmets or bigger shields. It took me hours to convert the original
trousered, jacketed figure into a naked man, without the benefit of a template I might add. If you think you can do better, please have a go.

All the new units are correctly costed for points. So if a Macedonian player buys lots of guard phalanx he will not have much points for anything else and will be badly outnumbered.
Isn't the points system supposed to even out such things?

Maybe. I keep revisiting units and making improvements, so I might get around to this. I like making the armies more individual. I have not changed the vanilla Thureophoroi and
Thorakitai. Matlegob has given them fancy shields for his TT Mod +, but I don't agree with that, my research suggests that they probably had plain shields devoid of decoration.

Marian rome helmets:

This is a TT Mod + thing. I have not touched the Late Republican legionaries in my original TT Mod. I am very happy with the vanilla textures, and don't agree with having different shield designs in a unit.
lapdog666 wrote: Tue Oct 02, 2018 6:08 pm
Cretan archers:

This is the same as in the vanilla game. The vanilla game shies away from too much extra protection or abilities for light troops (Velites, Cretans and Balearic Slingers being obvious exceptions). If we start giving them protected status or swordsmen capability then they will be less likely to evade, which they should do. They will also start holding up in melee too well, which is something that many players complain about as it is. Also the Cretans are already Superior, which I think takes into account any slight increase in equipment they may have had.

Of course, as I have already said, I don't have any way of adding a shield to the model!

Bosporans:

I don't know what your source for that is.

in general : units like paeonian irregular foot, just dont look good enough. TT mod improves vanila fog but some things are just rushed like gaestae or paeonians
I quite like the Paonians!

As for the flags, there are big problems in releasing new banners:

1) The modded banners appear in long form (similar in length to Generals banners) at the start of a battle before returning to normal. The problem is worse in Multiplayer, because the
full length banners never disappear. This is very confusing for most players, and can be quite ugly because the modder did not intend the banner to display like that.

2) You can increase the number of banners to give specific new banners to different factions, but once you start doing that the Minimap does not work properly, the side with the new flag
has red markers. So in a battle between two armies with new dedicated banners, both sides will be red on the minimap, making it unusable.

If I can ever figure out a way to overcome these issues new faction specific banners will be included in the TT Mod.

Thanks Paul for the reply: I am totally agree with you!

lapdog666: you can do things by your own. I only use the open "paint.net" and I have no skill. Then we can add your work in the mod

we need to set up a 'unified modding collective' where all features deemed most suitable are placed into a core repository (squads / army lists / textures etc etc) so that people can just download one mod that combines all of the best work out there.

Or alternately have a collection of 'modular' mods so that people can pick and choose, but ensure that all are configured for MP / SP / Campaigns etc etc

would it be difficult to give back the original shields to the gaestae, change nothing else, let em be naked and without helmet? would look much better and closer to history imo

Thanks for all the hard work.

Are we supposed to down load the Unit Texture zip AND the other zips? Or are the separate zips just for people who want to pick and choose what they want to add?

Mord.

It is a little mistake, nut in this way you can choose what you want!

If you want the last complete version just take the zip named UNITTEXTURES.zip
