I took an Early Libyan army to a 650 point comp. 1 BG of chariots (because I only have that many models), 6 BGs of light foot javelin, 4 BGs of unprotected undrilled MF bow (I have no LF bow) and 2 BGs of unprotected undrilled MF impact foot swordsmen.

Over six games I won 2, had good winning draws in 3 and a losing draw in the other. A far better result than I expected as I picked the army to be about as bad as I could get from my available models.

I'd say Warring States or Kofun-Nara Japanese for Empires :).
MF not HF, hence -1 POA....
The trick to medium foot against cav is to minimise the impact phase casualties by spreading the hits over multiple units/units in smaller frontage, provide as many positive modifiers to cohesion tests as possible (Inspired/rear support), and maximising shooting before the enemy gets in. Staggering the impact over a couple of turns to allow an inspired general to leapfrog to whichever unit needs his support in the impact phase the most also helps. If you can take the impact right, and perhaps disrupt a couple of units pre-charge, your odds become much better. In other words, they're great armies if you play them well and can set up the situation in your favour with the impact properly.

For me

Empires of the Dragon: Tree Kingdoms Korean (Koguryo) and Five Dynasties Chinese (my favourite army in DBM was CHI'n but not good unfortunately in FOG  )
Eternal Empire: Later Ottoman Turk
Swords and scimitars: Seljuk turk (with Dailami ally)
Legions Triumphant: Palmyran and Dominate Roman
Immortal Fire: Early Achaemenid Persian and Bactrian Greek
Storm of Arrows: Ordonnance French
Rise of Rome: Later Seleucid and Bosporan
Oath and Fealthy: Italian Communal and Later Sicilian
Wolves: Normans
Beagles: Neo Assyrian

All excellent advice, but if they had just grasped that standing closer together would work. Oh well, we can't expect China, India or Japan to be as innovative as the Iroquis.
