Thanks for the inquiry. I am researching, but due to time constraints, do not expect to commence until mid January, at the earliest.

The brave citizens of Campania (rbodleyscott) have repelled the unwarranted aggression by King Pyrrhos (TheGrayMouser). 14% to 42%.

The Boii have (barely) defeated the Romans 56% to 61%, in a battle that took 23 turns! The Romans retreated back to Rome, where the Senate will hold hearings.

76mm, doing research, but do not expect a new campaign to be rolled out until mid January at the earliest.

Pete has reported that Macedon (Ian) has won a decisive victory over the Achaean League. So here is a summary of activities in 278 B.C.:

1. Epirus (TGM) beginning treasury 21,500T. Epirus spent 500T to invade Campania and lost 42:14, so not a decisive loss. Epirus received 1,000T in annual income. Ending treasury was 22,000T.

2. Rome (Nigel) beginning treasury 21,000T. Rome spent 500T to invade the Boii and lost 56:61, so not a decisive loss. Rome received 1,000T in annual income. Ending treasury was 21,500T.

3. Macedon (Ian) beginning treasury 21,000T. Macedon spent 500T to invade the Achaean League and won a decisive victory. Macedon received 1,000T in annual income. Both the Aetolian League and now the Achaean League are clients of Macedon, so Macedon receives 200T from each. However, the Galatians are making themselves quite at home in northern Macedon, so cost Macedon 200T. Ending treasury was 21,700T.

4. Carthage (Pete) beginning treasury was 21,500T. Carthage was inactive, so received 1,000T in income and 200T from Syracuse, its client state. Ending treasury was 22,700T.

5. Seleucids (Mac) beginning treasury was 21,500T. Seleucids were inactive, so received 1,000T in income. Ending treasury was 22,500T.

6. Ptlomaic (Richard) beginning treasury was 22,000. Ptlomaics were inactive, so received 1,000T in income. Ending treasury was 23,000T.

See next post for some changes I am making to create a bit of uncertainty regarding movement order and annual income.

Changes to movement order and annual income:

Taking a branch from Lysimachos' sturdy tree, for the new turn (277 B.C.), movement order will be partially determined by the American Lottery called Powerball. The next drawing of this lottery will be tomorrow night, 6 January, 2018. This lottery consists of 5 white balls and 1 red ball, with the 5 white balls listed first and then the red (Powerball) listed last. The results for the last draw, 3 January, 2018 were White: 2, 18, 37, 39, 42 Red: 12.

I propose to divide the players into 2 groups, according to their "normal" movement order. The first group is composed of 1. Epirus (TGM), 2. Rome (Nigel) and 3. Macedon (Ian). The second group is composed of 4. Carthage (Pete), 5. Seleucids (Mac) and 6. Ptolemaics (Richard). The first group had movement priority in 278 B.C., so in 277 B.C., the second group will have movement priority. The priority will be determined by the last 3 white balls applied to the normal movement order. The lowest number will move first, followed by the second lowest. If there is a tie, the second number of the white ball will be used Using the last draw, the last 3 white balls were 37 39 42. Pete, having number 4, receives the first white ball, number 37. Mac, having number 5, receives the second white ball, number 39. Richard, having number 6, receives the last white ball, number 42. Pete's white ball is 37, Mac's is 39. The lowest number for both is 3. Richard's white ball is 42, so his lowest number is 2. As Richard has the lowest number, he will move first. Pete and Mac have a tie at 3, but Pete's second number is 7, whereas Mac's is 9, so Pete moves second.

The opponent for Richard would be TGM (if he chooses to attack a minor state) as TGM moved first during the last turn. Pete's opponent would be Nigel, as he moved second, and Mac's opponent would be Ian. This system should allow all players to have a chance of moving in all of the movement spots and will vary their opponents.

The second change in the rules pertains to the potential for natural disaster. This will be determined by the red Powerball in drawings every other Saturday, with the first being 13 January. The highest number of the red Powerball numbers as applied to the normal movement order will determine that there was a famine or earthquake or other catastrophe during the turn. As this will occur every other week, I am assuming that twice during the turn/year there could be this potential. The highest red Powerball number will determine where the disaster strikes in the first half of the turn/year and the lowest number in the red Powerball number will determine where the disaster strikes in the second half of the turn/year. For example, the 3 January draw had a red Powerball number of 12. The highest number was 2. Therefore, Rome, having normal movement order of 2, would be affected. If the highest red powerball number is higher than 6 or zero, there is no affect.

Each catastrophe would reduce annual income by 200T if the sum of the second 2 white ball was 5 or less or 300T if 6 or more. If a major power has an occupying force in its territory (such as Ian now does with the Galatians) AND it is subject to the disaster, it will lose an additional 100T. As an example, the second white ball in the 6 January draw was 18. This totals 9, so Rome would have its income reduced by 300T.

I will report the results of the next Powerball drawing and specify movement order for 277 B.C. on Sunday.

Mac

Ps: When I was evaluating this,I discovered that the next draw will be about $550 million!

Pete,

I read the quote from our colorful president in my newspaper this morning. Now I know what you were referring to. As a rule, I do not pay attention to what he or any politician says, only to the little they actually accomplish!

The Powerball draw last night produced the following: White 12 29 30 33 61 Red 26. As stated above Pete has "normal" movement number 4, Mac 5 and Richard 6.

Using the last three white balls, Pete is assigned ball three, number 30, Mac ball four, number 33 and Richard ball five, number 61. Pete has the lowest number, which is zero (I consider zero to be a number). Pete will move first. Richard has the second lowest number, which is 1. Richard will move second. Mac will move third. Thus now, to use my rather confusing term, movement is "partially determined." The rest of the movement will be determined by the decisions made by Pete, Richard and Mac regarding which Power or Client State they will attack. If Pete decides to attack a minor power, TGM, who moved first in 278 B.C., will respond. If Pete decides to attack Rome, then of course, Nigel would respond.

Pete, it is up to you.

Sorry, I missed you first post, and I have been away a couple of days getting to and from a funeral.

And now I have mislaid the rules. Trying to find them.

Richard,

My condolences. Your fleet will indeed carry you. Nigel, it is up to you to set up a large battle as Bithynia.

Antiochus will take his Seleucids to Pontus. Ian, please represent these semi barbarians in a large battle.
