Right now I'm back at a computer, full details of the timings are as follows:-

Image

As ever there is plenty of parking, the doors will be open from 8am, and a wargamers breakfast will be available from 8am.

This year the FoGR tournament will be in the Hall as per the attached plan

So you've seen the draw, you know where the tables are so grab some food, find your opponent, grab a FoGR table and get gaming at 9am or earlier if you both want.

Safe journey and here's to a great weekend with lots of 6's being rolled!

Well another Roll Call has come and gone and the Renaissance Swiss did better than my Ancient Swiss in winning the competition. The full results are as follows:-

Image

Congratulations to Stephen, Simon and Paul for taking the podium spots and commiserations to Keith being the only person to halt the Swiss steam roller but still not getting on the podium!

Next up is the Challenge - so far there are only 2 entrants for FoGR - if FoGR is going to continue as a competition ruleset can you please get those entries in ASAP or FoGR is at a very real risk of being pulled!

I am not going to The Challenge because of the venue.

That might be tricky then.

Out of the 10 players from last year, around half are playing other rulesets now and I'd guess Ed Trotsenberg won't come from Malta again, which leaves us potentially on only 3-4 possibles..

Tim,

A general question about Challenge are numbers for all competitions up, down or the same as the last few years?

For the periods we are running, we're essentially on par with last year at this date, which is great - we should end up some way north of 100 overall.

We dropped FoW because of waning interest and lack of someone to run it, and the DBM crowd decided that they didn't want an event this year, so neither of those are running this year.

The number of entries for FoG:R for this and Campaign looks to be so low as to make them untenable. I am starting to practice for MeG as I expect FoG:R to be cancelled. In this case will it be possible for me to migrate my existing FoG:R entry for Challenge over to MeG?

Should be no problem. That would get us up to 6 for MeG as well.

Looks like the demise of FOGR on the competition circuit is well under way. Shame because it is still the best Renaissance set out there. Appears that the longevity of any ruleset on the competion circuit is finite and dwindling regardless of how good the rules are. New and shiny the perennial appeal?

DBR started in 2002 as a competition set, and last ran (at Challenge) in 2007 and at best got to around 16 players. FoGR started in 2009, and has had pools consistently in the mid to high 20's, so that's still a very good run comparatively speaking.

Decent scenery is always good to have and I suspect we will be playing FOGR at the club level for years to come. What version of FOGR though remains to be seen.

Now if the amended rules increase the cost of field fortifications or ban them outright for Vespasians Spanish that would be interesting
