Patch the PanzerCorps.exe and try again. If you still have slowdowns, run PanzerCorps.exe with /nocache parameter (create a shortcut and add it there)
It won't help in this situation as the issue is not related with memory.
And to be honest it never helped, as I have tried it before we had the /nocache switch. The gains were always marginal.

Please try my suggestion and those who have both versions check with the non-Steam version like Rundankort asked.

It WILL help. On large maps/mods the game has to load a load of data and VM fragmentation happens. The users should run VMMap and select the panzercorps.exe and post pictures here.

I had this in the past and activating the LARGEADDRESSAWARE flag with this patcher fixes the issues.

I think we ruled out that the PC.exe uses all available 32Bit memory, already. The executable seems not to exceed about 500mb of ram.

Again, it's not related with this issue. This is a 1.25 related issue, not a Panzer Corps one.
If you want to talk about the LARGEADDRESSAWARE flag please open another thread.

Good morning!

Maybe this contributes to solve this issue.
I have installed Soviet Corps via Steam on feb 18th.
Played it and everything went as fast and nice as expected.
Last week i had no occasion to play.
On Sat 5th of march i started the romania map of soviet corps after not playing panzer corps for one week.
Suddenly i experienced the same issues as described in this thread.
My read is that something has happened during this week and a steam update is the first thing that came to my mind.

Cheers Huri

Win 7 64bit, i5, 16 GB RAM.
Everything was fine when the game automatically updated to 1.25 via Steam. Didn't purchase Soviet Corps yet. No mods.
At march 3rd, I got notification that major NVIDIA driver update is available. This issue emerged on the same day, after update was installed.

I tried the regular version.

It works fine. I saved a couple of times then checked the size of the files and they look good.

I only played the first scenario. I will play some more to see what happens.

Guys. A silly question: Do you run the game through Steam?.
I am asking this because I have the Steam version (1.25) BUT I run the game directly from panzercorps.exe, without even start Steam. I have no issues at all.
Did someone suffering these issues tried to not to run Steam and use panzercorps.exe directly instead?.

Best regards.
Akkula.

I still get the slowdown running the game outside of Steam, though Steam is still running. I'll try it again after exiting Steam.

EDIT: Interestingly, I can't load saved games if Steam isn't running. They aren't saved in the cloud, but rather in My Documents, so I'm a bit puzzled.

None of the DLC campaigns and their savegames will work if Steam is not running.

I'm having the same problem with massive slowdowns but when I turned off Steam I was able to finish a mission in the vanilla campaign without it happening.

Issues with the driver aside, that cannot be the culprit of this PzC issue, as those drivers were only released yesterday

I am on Nvidia but I really cannot imagine that driver problems with:
(...)Blue screens, failing to boot up Windows, restart loops, losing sound, graphical artifacting and even burned out cards (...)
cause issues with DirectDraw 2D performance in PC...

Btw the /nocache fix as described (I did it as VPaulus outlined in earlier posts) has not worked for me, two turns at most and a gradual slowing down to a crawl and lagging screens etc.

I am not getting through the second turn before I have to save and quit.

Hi guys, quick post before I have to leave: I have both the Steam and regular versions on the same PC/hard drive which I can play separately. (PC: i5, GTX970, Win7 Ultimate)

Spend a few hours last night playing both, and the Steam version does start to lag & stutter after a while.

Regular version works fine, even after a few hours, just the occasional brief stutter when a new animation is played for the first time (sometimes with Windows wait cursor showing up). But the Steam version does slow down gradually, starts getting laggy/stutters, although it never crashes.

Most noticable is the slight delay when trying to scroll, especially when trying to scroll with an airplane selected, the movement path overlay seems to induce a lot of lag. I can't really see any significant differences in CPU/memory use between the two, although scrolling will briefly spike one of my cores, on both versions. This means one core will go 50-100% very briefly, taking PzC up to 20-25% CPU use, but it is just a brief spike. Memory usage will slowly creep up from 650Mb to nearly 1Gb on both versions after a few hours.

I could play AC for quite a while before things slowed down, but GC'39 seemed to slow down much quicker? I cannot be sure until I've played more, but I have the feeling that the introduction of new unit graphics/animations determines the rate of slowdown; I noticed this during Italian Offensive when it seems to slow down quickly when a lot of new units/animations (airplanes/ships) are added.

I have to leave now for busy day but will check back later; if I can help out just let me know.

Thanks ThvN

I too have tested and I come to the same conclusion regarding the Steam version. Even the buttons start to lag...

I can confirm this workadround worked for me too - I tried going straight ffrom the launcher and was able to finish off Stalingrad, Kursk and Moscow 43 with no lag (The first 1/2 of Stalingrad was with the STeam launcher which was doing more slowdowns). I also have an nVidia card but its an old driver

Done some more tests, and it is safe to say the issue stems from Steam. I tried launching from Steam BUT disconnecting myself entirely from the internet so Steam had no connection, but this didnt solve the issue, so whatever is causing it isnt network/internet related.

I would also agree with the statements of even the buttons getting laggy - but the game never crashes, it just gets slower and slower and slower - but like mentioned before, you dont even have to do anything in game. Leave it for 20-30 mins and it will slow by itself when launched from Steam.
