Pod A result.

rbodleyscott (French Catholics 1562-1588) (57%) won vs Aryaman (French Huguenots 1577-1588) (63%)

As can be seen from the rout %, this was an extremely close and exciting game. I am not sure my nerves can stand it. As usual the Catholic horse were no match for the Huguenot horse, and the Huguenot foot no match for Royal Swiss, and the whole battle dissolved into a chaotic maelstrom. Aryaman did a great job of keeping one of the two Swiss keils out of the battle by caracoling in front of it with a unit of reiters and falling back safely after each Swiss charge.

Many thanks Aryaman.

Pod A result.

Cavehobbit (Dutch1590-1609) (15%) won vs Batesmotel (Spanish 1569-1599) (46%)

Quantity vs Quality, the few Spanish Tercios couldn't do much about the large number of Maurician units.
Thanks for the game.

Pod C
Deadtorius 13% victorious Vs Ulyssesgrunt 45%

The Dutch were able to surround and defeat the Spanish left and this allowed them to set up rear charges and gang up on the Spanish Tercios, something much needed as if the Tercios can get into the P&S formations the Tercios win. As the Dutch found out about 3 times. It became a matter of the the Spanish left crumbling that allowed the Dutch to overwhelm the Tercios, sometimes getting as many as 4 units on one. Numbers finally told and the Spanish will to fight gave out.
Thanks for the game it was a good one. Thought it was going to go on longer and just before Spain collapsed an evil Spanish Tercio routed and stopped right in front of my Kuirassier that was all set to rear charge a vetran Tercio that had fragged and forced back one of my Dutch units, thus forming me to send in 2 other Dutch units to keep the Tercio where it was. Good game thank you again Ulyssesgrunt.

Thanks for the game. Seems like the Spanish couldn't make it in either of our pair of games.

Re: Caracole II -- Phase 2 -- 42 wide fields

All,

I've noticed in my games some players are selecting 42 wide maps. It used to be that 32 was the "wide" setting. Now selecting "medium" gives a 32-wide map.

I myself don't care if games are played on the wider field -- but since 32 is declared to be the "regulation width", players can reject a challenge on a 42 field.

Most of the time it shouldn't make a difference and further softens the "edge of the world" thingy. But I can see if someone is facing a bad-a$$ cavalry army, they might not want the game on a 42-wide field.

Pod A result.

Cavehobbit (English 1634-41) (46%) won vs Aryaman (German Catholic 1639-48) (62%)

The game was much closer than the result shows. Both sides lined up on ridges divided by a stream. The English moved units on both flanks to try and outflank the Germans. But the Germans had a good start as their units had better fire power and better cavalry. I thought I would not catch up and win the game, but I wouldn't just give up so I decided to do my best. Suddenly things started to look better for the English. At least one of my units rallied and at one point both sides had 40/40 in routed units. Things continued to go my way, more thanks to luck than skill.
Thanks for a great game.
