i've just noticed something rather disturbing: the game recalculates the casualties at the end.
if you win the game:
your number of killed stay the same
your number of wounded is decreased by a third
your number of routed is decreased by 90%
if you lose the game:
25% of your wounded seems to have died
your number of captured/deserted decreases by a third
you lose all your guns (regardless of whether they were limbered up and leaving the field)
now i suppose this may be the situation a week after the battle (very arbitrary, and the fact that all guns are lost adds to the aggravation) but it certainly gives a wrong picture of the casualties on the day of the battle and why on earth would you want to do that except in a campaign situation. another arcane rule.

I have a question about scoring. You said that cavalry counts as double as such would captured/deserted cavalry count double then halved (effectively scoring to the number lost while the foot number is halved). If so then my score versus jomni is 5.7 rather than 5.4.

iandavidsmith (Spanish) pts 3.5 vs cavehobbit(French) pts 5.7
iandavidsmith (Spanish)
foot 1731= 1731
horse 457 x 2 = 914
deserted 1683/ 2 =841
cannon 8 x 50 = 400
total men = 7574
score = (1731+ 914+ 841+ 400) /6712= 0.5789x 10 =5.7
cavehobbit(French)
foot 2016= 2016
horse 171 x 2 = 342
deserted 209/ 2 =104
cannon 8 x 50 = 400
total men = 8501
score = (2016+ 342+ 104+ 400) / 7968= 0.3591 x 10 =3.5
The irony of the battle where the Spanish routed the French at 60% but lost
so many men and horses that it was actually a defeat .
Thanks for the Game , Ian

i don't believe i made a difference between horse and men routed. at this point, scoring is just for form because this is a test run since there are a few things that need to be worked out after this is over : how to mitigate the difference between 40% and 60% rout threshold, and the program changing the casualties at the end of the game.

pantherboy (Scots) 4.9 pts vs iandavidsmith (Parliamentarian) 1.0 pts
Scots (6506)
Killed 196/5
Wounded 398/11
Captured/Deserted 28/0
Guns Lost 0
Parliamentarian (5233)
Killed 579/41
Wounded 718/54
Captured/Deserted 1165/166
Guns Lost 8
NB: This game ended after the enemy hit 40% thus making it impossible to score higher. I really think the best scoring system would be a win scores 6.0 (or greater if the % is in excess of 60) thus giving players who score rapid decisive victories equal points to those that eke out a protracted win. You would then divide the losers % by 10 and subtract from the winner. This would mean players who barely win wouldn't score as well as those that did better.
