Does the sticky note about copyright mean that "hammy" won't be coming up with a set of QRS?

Thank you for allowing this to happen.

"You will find that after one game you only need the rules to clarify points. It really is simple."
You guys must be "Brilliant"! ... and there's nothing worse than being told how simple something is when you are struggling with it!!
The basic flow of the game and the "concepts" for impact, manoeuvre, combat and cohesion are simple ... but there is a lot of detail and the interactions between troop types mean that there are enough combinations and permutations - particularly with combat POAs etc - to force some of us to refer to a QRS.
Being MR THICKO (and having played ONLY 8 games) I'm still checking rules and constantly referring to the Beta QRS. I found the Beta QRS was vital - and much more usable after I'd removed most of the appalling orange and made some adjustments to it - making it quicker and easier to read. It can also be printed in A3 (not in the USA!!) for those of us going blind.
If I get permission from the owners of the Beta QRS I'm happy to post my "modified" QRS to the forum.

Marcus you must be drinking too much shiraz you were far more able when you lived in Virginia. Ok. Perhaps it seemed like i was doing the brush off. I do think your description of the basic flow is accurate. I did not mean i didn't need to review the qrs. But it isn't hard either. You don't have to be brilliant even though we are.
My point it flows once you dive in and don't be daunted.

Hi All
Glad to know the rules are easy to remember if played regularly. But a QRS is key for those of us who do not get regular games and need to gen up and have a little help at the start of the next game!
Thanks again Hammy for taking this on.

hammy wrote:We are discussing what whould be on a quick reference sheet not a quick play guide

If I have the time I will see if I can write a basic intro to the rules although the rules themselves are actually quite readable.
To be honest I have not actually used the beta quick reference sheets for the last 6-9 months anyway. I feel that after about 6 games you know almost everything on them anyway, at least I did.
Still a nice reference sheet will be forthcoming.
Hammy,
Why not just produce a modified version of the four sheets from the back of the main rule book as was originally suggested, plus the Full Turn Sequence from p. 168? Or is that what you were planning already?
Cheers,
Scott

What I want to do is to have the QRS contain the info you need while you are playing. I am not too woried about it containing the terrain selection table setup procedure etc.
I do think that a sheet with terrain effects on it would be good as would one covering the effects of loss of cohesion.
The idea is to have a few sheets that will let new or occasional players look up the important stuff that they need while playing a game and to make it larger than the text in the books and not to take up too many pages.

Hi Hammy
Spot on plan.
I and my player group are quite happy using the book for terrain setup and having it handy is good for advertising to other club players!!

So when will the QRS be available - we are planning our first games in 2 weeks?

I wouldn't worry, Hammy is usually pretty prompt to do things. Don't forget, Hammy is doing this as a "favour" and he does have a life(allegedly)

outside of wargaming!

What is wrong with the QRS sheets we had for the Beta Test version?
They would only need slightly updating and all the restricted confidential stuff removed and job's a good un (in fact I have already had a go).
If somebody could tell me the amount of gullies allowed (for some reason this wasn't on them) then I could complete my first go!
OK then CLAVDIVS - who are you?

I'm using my Beta QRS and so far haven't had any bother.
I think CLAVDIVS is Colin Betts. Do I win a prize?

Some of the Terrain Deployment stuff has changed - i.e. dramatically less Open Ground. Gullies are also not listed and I think that some of the terrain movement is not quite correct

Everything you need for set-up seems to be on the last page of the rule book (before Ads page).
I can think of no real reason to duplicate this.
A QRS is only necessary to speed things up by negating the need to flick through pages.
I think therefore that a double sided A4 (Letter) would suffice.
I may have spotted a problem with set-up, see other post on Rivers and Coasts.

I agree that a double sided sheet would be great but while it is possible to do and get the important things in there I think that it will be a touch small.
One possible might be four sides in larger type that can also be done as a double sided landscape QRS in smaller type.

Hi Hammy
I have designed QRS to work in this way and use the printer controls to print 2 pages of doc to 1 page of A4. Works great for young eyes and the normal print of 4 A4 pages is great for failing eyes [as is switching from 15mm to 28mm figures!!]
