Some potential cheese there though. Fail the test not to charge; don't fancy the match up. Declare a wheel so halt instead :(

That would fall foul of the number of dice to throw at impact rule surely? i.e. if I charge forward I will get some dice, if I wheel I won't get any.

Don't know how that affects the charge if the camp is involved???

Maybe but i can just see it getting to be a 'how many angels on the head of a pin' argument "I would get four dice if I charge straight and four if I wheel but after I make that decision my charge gets cancelled as it might be if somepne intercepted me from the rear. Blah blah blah"

So we seem to have identified four scenarios which potentially involve the rear corner of a base 'swinging':

1. BG hard up against table edge

2. BG in a line with friendly BGs on either side

3. BG hard up against impassable terrain

4. BG hard up against terrain that would reduce it's normal movement distance

We appear to be concluding that the treatment for each scenario is different depending on whether or not there are specific RAW of relevance.

In the case of scenario 1, wheeling is not permitted as it would breach a specific RAW. But a shift sideways might work.

It would be helpful to summarise the conclusions for each of the other scenarios (please).
I should have said except Kiwis. Or Hungarians. In all circumstances I would say first agree with your opponent what seems sensible and do that. In fact that applies to all umpire calls. Also, if there are two ways to rule things I'll go for what seems most historical/least cheesy. But if you can't agree, then shifts are permitted in movement. in terms of charging where you could just charge straight forwards but want to wheel I'd judge on the merits (because each situation is different). Having said that my tendency would be:

1 and 3. I think the rules say the chargers halt.So I'm quite likely to rule that you charge straight (and I would probably allow you to think again as to whether you then want to declare a charge). I might add the comment that if you didn't want to do that yopu shouldn't have put them there.

2. I think you can wheel out in movement phase or in a charge, and the authors have clrified that's ok. The "can't reduce dice at impact" rules stop you doing anything too daft. I think there is an argument that if the space is constricted so that you can actually clear the BG next door you need to drop back bases in which case you'd perhaps be reducing dice at impact.

4. I think if you wheel so that a back corner enters you move will have any terrain reduction. After all, if a BG starts with it's back edge a little bit in difficult going then it has reduced movement.
