Don't forget the Syracusan Bodyguard!!!!

And by the way - my Syracusan Citizens have beaten up my mates Spartans on two occasions.

So much so that once when I ran out of figures and had to use my own Spartans as 'Syracuans' I pointed them out to him and said "these are my Undrilled/Poor/Offensive Spear - you can tell which ones are the poor ones because they have the Lambda symbol... they found them lying around a battlefield after our last fight :) Was my most excellent sledge so far.

I see this thread is trying to make another come-back. Let's hope it doesn't end up like Gary Glitter.

Well ... it's been almost a year, any hard rules in this forum how long a thread had to be dormant before the reviver is awarded the golden spade? ;)

Clearly it has nothing to do with how strongly a community feels about being ripped off, or the refusal of others to do the right thing and class spartan veterans as elite.
As for Immortals being superior.....sounds like a death sentence to be drafted into the "10,000".
"He'll do" points a Persian officer. "We lost 4,000 yesterday in that mountain pass, and the King always wants his 10,000 strong!"
If quality guaranteed success - why would we need advertising?

What are you burbling on about?

Should Athenian and other veterans be classed as superior then?

Oh isn't Hollywood such a wonderful history teacher.

Why do people keep DOING that... mentioning U... I mean?

I actually lost 2 hours of my life. U hours I shall never get back. Add to that the approximately 1 hour of wages lost... everytime I'm reminded of this I go into the foetal position.

Personally, I think it's just something you guy's get of seeing. A grown man cringing in the corner sucking his thumb mumbling 'mamma, mamma...'

My son uses a spartan army and I must admit that having some 4-6 superior BG makes it sometimes "difficult" for his opponent . But for the show, one 4-6 elite BG would not hurt but is it really necessary ?

Now what bothers me more is the explanation for the 0-18 elite BG in a roman army ! just because they are veterans !

Spartans were trained since childhood for war , and ruthlessly so . So they are superior . What then of spartans veterans ? ( and other veterans in other armies ... ) . What's very disturbing in all this is why are some armies giuven elite veterans and other no !

I ask the question because the answer might help us better understand the philosophy behind all this 8)

Because of the interaction between different troops in the same period of history.

I agree. It would have been nice to have seen some superior Early Germans and some Elite, but practically useless MF, UnProt, Imp Ft, Berserkers, 2 bases, for the Vikings and 'special/guard' units for others. This would give some flavour and appeal to a lot of armies that miss out. But it is not the rout the authors have chosen. And I am sure this is covered further back in the thread.

Sounds like a job for "fantasy" list variants - let's not omit flaming pigs!

Speaking of fantasy, U 571, and TV history reducing people to the gibbering in a foetal position, the new Battles B.C. series on the History Channel sets a new standard.

It is bad, really bad, so horribly bad that youngsters under the age of 18 should be prohibited from watching it entirely to prevent developmental brain damage and adults with IQs over 90 should have to sign waivers expressly accepting the risk. The first episode was about the campaigns of a character called Hannibal the Annihilator . . . .

So compared with such monstrosities, Spartans being Superior and Caesar's legions being Elite is so close to right that the difference seems rather trivial.

Hannibal the Annihilator
Sounds like a dangerous chap. Is he related to the REAL Hannibal? (Lector that is)

Really did they reach a such height of baseness? I rarely find time to watch TV documentaries, and indeed when I see something of scientific about the discipline I master I have problems to keep laughs. Still, I thought that history documentaries were at a decent level.
