Seriously has anyone gotten a DV on Germany (east and west) I get utterly annihilated by turn 15
I can get them in 1.14 but not in 1.2.LandMarine47 wrote:Seriously has anyone gotten a DV on Germany (east and west) I get utterly annihilated by turn 15
A more interesting question - has anyone got a DV in German Revolution (WWI) - coming after Mons18, you have a very tough time against a purely random scenario (where enemies don't even have a scripted location - they pop up wherever they want!)LandMarine47 wrote:Seriously has anyone gotten a DV on Germany (east and west) I get utterly annihilated by turn 15
I don't know about the Romanian axis allies in Hungary, but the Italian 8th army hold the left flank during the battle of Stalingard until it got almost destroyed during the Russian offense during "Operation Saturn".IttoOgami wrote:Oboyan, oh yes. Grinding PC style, its like you cant move 2 hexes before you stumble in the next russian battle group.
Spoils of War - the premise is to stupid. I also do not like some other strange design decision (for example, having Romanians in the Belgrad Scenario or Italians in the Stalingrad scenario, when it should be vice versa), but the scenarios are ok.
In Afrika Corps, the one I dislike most is Persia. Initial enemy setup is so strong that they have a always a good chance to kill one of your airplanes.
True, but it was (unlike the Romanians) not involved in the fights in the city.Dragoon wrote:I don't know about the Romanian axis allies in Hungary, but the Italian 8th army hold the left flank during the battle of Stalingard until it got almost destroyed during the Russian offense during "Operation Saturn".IttoOgami wrote:Oboyan, oh yes. They are strong but they have only a sight range of 1. If you place an apparently weak formation in front of them but have them covered with artillery the problem dissolves on it's own. Even more because attacking units don't retain their entrenchment bonus.TSPC37730 wrote:Stalingrad.
So far for me anyway. I haven't played them all yet, but, Stalingrad seems to be an all too co-incidental turning point. Specifically, it's when my prestige seems to start decreasing from scenario to scenario instead of increasing from scenario to scenario.
Those d*mn SMG infantry. They're everywhere....
An interesting one to pick, as apart from the first time I played (a total disaster bad enough to make me restart the entire AK game) it doesn't seem too bad. Last time I put everything in the middle, and used a cautious and methodical approach to clear a path. It helped a little that I had converted the move hero Italian SPart into a 149mm gun so it could keep up with the infantry and give the benefit of more ammo, and that I had a range hero gun as well. Where they could get to a clear hex or a Stug could back them up, the Tigers cleared out the bunkers to reduce enemy spotting and then it was mostly just a matter of being methodical - eg frequent resupply of defensive artillery to deter enemy attacks and reduce casualties to my own troops. Sometimes this involved concentrating artillery fire on a single critical unit if it blocked the path to ensure a quick removal. I had some reasonably experience AA which helped me keep my own airforce away from enemy AA, and had a policy of targeting AA so that I could bring in the Piaggio to strip ammo from well entrenched defenders. Having cleared the middle city, I sent a few units to clear out the lower right hand corner, blasted the 17 pounder screen to dust with my artillery and then came at the remaining left hand forces from top and side.BiteNibbleChomp wrote:I'm adding Basra to my list - in 10 turns I have managed to lose 5 2-hero 3-star tanks and my only 2 experienced infantry.

I tried doing a sweep from the northwest down to the south east, using 2 paras to get the bit in between the two rivers. I think my playthrough was worse than a total disaster, even though I used reform units as now I have only a Flamm, a single Tiger (was Matilda) and about 5 aircraft that are over 2*. And the Flamm only lived because it never got deployed into the scenario (I was sensible enough to not get my best unit destroyed!)captainjack wrote:An interesting one to pick, as apart from the first time I played (a total disaster bad enough to make me restart the entire AK game) it doesn't seem too bad. I'm currently near the end of 44 East, and my personal most hated scenarios are all the ones where I get over-confident and lose a 5* Stug IV or Pioneer unit to needless rushing ahead! Actually, I only hate the really long ones where it's too time consuming to learn my lesson and start again.
I don't hate Arras 18, I'm afraid of it!BiteNibbleChomp wrote: I thought you really hated a few of the WWI ones
Have you played Mons18 in v2.1 yet? I am fairly sure you will never go near PzC mods after playing it now (I even used cheat codes to compare it to Berlin '45 and now I'm certain it is too difficult to be beaten!)captainjack wrote:I don't hate Arras 18, I'm afraid of it!BiteNibbleChomp wrote: I thought you really hated a few of the WWI ones
USA scenarios are frieghtening? I always found them some of the most fun missions. GC Kursk... I agree to everything you said about it being a mean oneLongasc wrote:I really have trouble recalling particular scenarios, the final USA scenarios in the standard campaign were always frightening me. I didn't particularly hate the later Afrika Korps scenarios but must agree, they got quite tedious.
I am not sure anymore, but the DLC 1943 has a choice between a "North" and a "South" path, and one of them is way more tedious and difficult.
No sure if it was Ponyri (North) or Yakovlevo (South). Both lead to scenarios with "O", and one of them was a real PITA.
Right now I have to make the choice again where to go.- Training for OoB: Pacific.
