That was the worst slaughter I've seen yet. After only 4 turns (2 each, of which the first is just closing in) I had lost half of my breakpoints, Ulysis just had a couple of disrupted units...

The Golden Horde are the clear losers amongst these steppe armies. With no cavalry with an impact weapon and only 9 armoured cavalry max, they can't stand against any of the other armies and at 500 points there isn't enough room to be able to successfully skirmish especially without LH.

I guess they need to be included for all the rounds to be fair but they really are unfit for this format especially since they are paired against the two armies in the competition where nearly all the opposing troops are light spear armed. In the land of the lanceless, the light spear cavalry is king .

Somebody, I think the iron duke, calculated that at 500 pts, the ratio of troops to terrain area is the lowest. And since the number of bgs in play for each side is only around 30, there is more room here than anywhere else. The presence of LH doesn't make a difference since your LH will be nullified by their LH.

I'm really puzzled.

Nobody is assigned an army: everyone will play with golden horde twice and will play against them twice over the two rounds. The only variable is who you play against for a particular matchup, which can only be avoided with full paired games, which would exponentially increase the number of games to unmanageable level if everyone is to play every encounter.

Golden horde have to face lithuanians and russians. The russians are not light speared cavalry. And i won as golden horde against lithuanians so it's not hopeless, just patience.

You can say also that the ottomans are disadvantaged because their armoured number is limited and they have to face mamluks and timurids who have access to lancers, but only four and average. Average lancers are not that great.

in the end, the differences are minor and nothing like you see regularly in other competitions, which are also now adopting the entire premise of restrictions that this series has been based on from the beginning.
