It is Fogman's comp so best wait for him I guess.

The only change would be early byz to maur byz (EARLY) and I would stick with later Viz early?

Yea..its all your fault

However to be fair, I inadvertently chose the wrong army as well.

ericdoman1 wrote:Me too, I have included army options below although they have been edited, I think.

There is some confusion with dates, as some armies (Lombard Early and Avars) beginning date are after the end of the Early Byzantine period.

I am using Vizzy early which ends 466 AD, there is a bit of a gap between early and mid Visigoth so for arguments sake the early visigoths would prob be OK upto 550 ad.

The Later Visigoth Early army was the original army, that is the one I chose but FOGMAN edited army options, yesterday (I think). See bottom of first post for edits?

From Decline and Fall:

Early Byzantines 493 -550 ad,
Later Visigothic 550 - 554,
Italian Ostrogothic 493-561,
Lombards (early) 568 - 649,
Avars (early) 558 - 631.

From Legion Triumphant:

Gepids 260 - 567.

I am OK carrying on with original armies or starting again, replacing Early Byz with Maurikian Byz 550-628 and quite prob choosing different armies
Seems like Later Visogothic (550 - 554 AD) and Maurikian Byzantine (550-628AD) fit better into the time scale, but hopefully fogman will be up soon and he can sort this out. I am happy either way.

OK, let's sort this out.

the only mistake on the armies I listed was with regard to visigoths. It should be "later visigothic" and not "later visigothic (early)". So eric should definitely restart. since the later visigoths are a bit difficult to play and you were not aware of the terrain restrictions, you can change your army to a different nation, eric. just let us know.

"Early Byzantines" doesn't mean "Maurikian Byzantines". It means the 'early byzantines 490-550', it's the first army in DAF. But since the time scale is close enough and since the avars army is contemporary, i'll accept maurikian in lieu of early byzantine. proceed.

"green" maps mean "NO desert maps".

Will use Avars but the original army was Later Visigoth Early, until it was edited.

Had a look and the Avars were around about 460 AD however not sure if they would be drilled then, prob something similar to the Huns.

The "Maurikian Byzantines", I believe copied the cavalry of the Avars, wondering why the AVar nobles aren't lance armed as well or possibly they were 50/50, lance bow and bow rear ranks.

What happens if you win initiative and your preferred map is desert? Do we roll again for initiative or do you choose a green map that might not be to your taste?

Sorry not trying to be a pain but winning initiative is very important in this game. I had a game once where all maps were desert, a rarity but could well leave the winner of initiative only having limited choices

Issuing new challenges to Lydianed, Turk, Uheng and Fogman, pw = avarice

Will need to resign all other games now. I will not have the time to play these new games and the started ones.

To all my opponents: we play on, His Fogmanship has spoken. Hope it was nice to wake up to all our frettings.

Eric, you could play Early Byzantine; no-one else seems to have picked it.... :wink

It's avars (early) and they're not from 460AD.

You have to take a green map, except when 4 desert maps are offered. I want to take terrain out of the equation. since both sides are taking 'open', there should be enough room so that nobody is handicapped. it has worked well in the other series.

Yes restart all your games that are not catholic, kosher, halal.

I have made one last adjustment since ian made a small mistake. he took 3 noble saxons instead the maximum 2 for his lombards. see original post.

I had a look and I think I know what may have happened when you go to Decline and Fall list and it pops up early Mauks are the first that pop up on the screen (well did when I did it) so I had to scroll up the lists to see if there was another, :-)

And oh has anyone started yup me and Turk are on Turn Four but would have probably played through if I hadn't been a sook and gone to bed at midnight :?
