I shall assume you're on some sort of knight's quest involving a damsel and a dragon.

And then there were two. Just the Danes and the Swiss left with Turk1964 to make the final choice.

With the final choice taken, the armies are now all decided. This means ericdoman1 will get to play Hamlet, leading the Danish contingent. I'll be making the fixture list shortly...

Good morning/afternoon/evening/night, ladies and gentlemen. We gather today for the draw to determine the fixture list for the most prestigious and splendid tournament, Festival of Pike. I am your host, attired in my finest chain-mail tuxedo, and I am ably assisted by a pair of fair wimple-clad maidens. The random number generator has been dusted down, greased up and is ready to go. So, without further ado, let us get the proceedings underway...
We have to start somewhere so let us begin with Group A, Round 1:
8 v 1, 4 v 5
Group B, Round 1:
6 v 7, 2 v 3
Group A, Round 2:
4 v 8, 1 v 5
Group B, Round 2:
6 v 3, 2 v 7
Which means the final group matches for Group A are:
1 v 4, 5 v 8
And for Group B:
2 v 6, 3 v 7
I will write out the fixture list in full for display in the opening post.

Unaccustomed as I am to public speaking, I feel it is my duty as chairperson to say a few words to augur in the great contest, Festival of Pike:
As storm clouds gather overhead
The kings of Europe quake with dread.
For war will soon engulf the land
With battles fought on grass, not sand.
Eight mercenary generals heed the call
To lead eight armies to the brawl.
Yet only one can claim the prize -
The rest will fall to their demise.
And with that I do officially declare this tournament...open!

The plain is wide. The air is pure.
The pikes glitter as on fire.
Battle beckons. Who will endure
To enkindle our death pyre?

Roses are red,
Violets are blue.
I've posted my game,
Now it's over to you.
Password for solly: pike
A couple of juicy ties for Round 1, then. Fedem against stockwellpete will have a bearing on who eventually gets second place behind ericdoman1. The Swiss v Low Countries in Group B will be a veritable pike-fest, living up to the tournament's name.
Let us do battle!
