I played FOG AM for 3 years (I play also FOGR), I had participed at some french tournaments with pleasure... But, I tried "Art de la Guerre" (not previousely played DBM, just DBA and HOTT) and I had been seduced (yes, I know... I'am an Heretic !!!).
With the digital version of FOG (beyond of my purse), i'll migrate at "Art de la Guerre" because I'am not very found of IPAD, PC and others "geeks things" in tabletop gaming... It's a conservative beahviour, I know, but I'am french and I'am found of smell of paper... reading a rule book is more pleasant than playing with smartphone and tablet.
Many of my FOG's friends will certainlly continue to play with the "2.0" and I regret not seeing them in the future at FOG-AM tournaments, but I expect finding a new gamer community in "Art de la Guerre". Perhaps some "FOGger's" will join the move (and we try to convert the "not so radical wing" of FOG players... but I respect the point of view of my friend "TheFrenchJester")

Well I'll take a look at Art de la Guerre when the translation is available. A mix of DBM and FoG is OK by me.

Haven't played FoG AM in well over a year and half.
Have no desire to use an Ipad etc to wargame as I have to use one for work.
The FoGN publication is very poor, needing much errata and many amendments.
I begin to wonder what the future holds for FoG as a whole.
Just my view.

well i agree with your FOGN comment, these rules seem to have been rushed to print...but i love the new vision for Naps wargaming....(no English +2) amongst other things, great ideas in the game just badly worded and explained.

1) go do a google search on "A Christmas Carol". If ever there was a need to protect an author, that was it. For this annecdotal story alone, I'm sympathetic to protecting FoG from mass IP theft.
I really don't think the author of A Christmas Carol gives 2 hoots about copyright
"You take the uncompleted books of living authors, fresh from their hands, wet from the press, cut, hack, and carve them ... Now, show me the distinction between such pilfering as this, and picking a man's pocket in the street." -- Charles Dickens in "Nicholas Nickleby"
There. It took me a while to find the opinion of the author of "A Christmas Carol". Mr. Dickens spent many years and personal funds to fight publishers who simply re-printed his work.

"my point was he is dead"
That's what I thought too, but I don't read those types of papers that report sightings of Elvis, Hitler....and apparently Charles Dickens. According to the history of copyright law in the US:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copyright_ ... ted_States
At the time of Dickens the author got 28 years plus a potential renewal of 14 years. Now it's 90/125 years or life plus 70 years. It's clear that the recent changes have lots and lots to do with reimbursing an author for his or her creativity.
It is interesting to note that the issue back then was similar to today's - i.e., cross-jurisdictional protection of rights.

Would "1387 Turcomans du Mouton Blanc" be an army, or something you would open a bottle of while playing the game?

Hi Laurence,
don't forget that in France all is reporting around eating and drinking
"le turcoman du mouton blanc" a litteral translation like we love to do in France

, it's not the less funny we have about the Army lists, we have a long story of untranslatable names given to them, I don't know if you speak or read French, but in this is the case you will surely have fun time reading the books, not always accurate but always funny; did you ever played the " nouvel empire Egyptien "? ( my kingdom for a chariot;-) )or " le romain bas Empire" ( litterally the low roman empire, afterall there 's an High Empire in french translation for the Early Roman Empire;-) ( if you're strikes the empire, the empire strikes back!;-)
Be seeing you;

I read French enough to get the gist usually. I could see the logic of low middle and high empire. NKE should surely be "Nouvel Royaume Egyptien" shouldn't it?
