Enric, one quick comment... at the risk of running spoilers for a game in progress... a suppressed mortar only has 4 move points at the start of its turn... apparently, that's not enough to load into a transport or to "walk" anywhere... as it's under fire every turn, from someone who's played the other side and knows where it started, it looks like it's going to die :-(

Note to self (and other players): Armour and transports cannot cross rotten wooden bridges... aha... now that changes things!

No one can know exactly where the mortar is because the mortars (US, and german) are placed randomly at the beginning of the scenario. Well, if you've played many times the scenario you will know that there are usually placed in 3-5 different tiles, but if you don't see it you can not know in which is.

I think a mortar is not as easy to move or load as an infantry, so the mortar's crew need all the turn to pack and move or load, and if they are suppressed and receiving fire every turn they will not be ready to pack and move, probably they would move away and left the mortar there… :)

Thanks x2 Enric. 1st, I've used your squads.csv to get "walking mortars" for the updated Fast N Sneaky map (viewtopic.php?f=87&t=36065), 2nd, City River's pretty good. I'm getting my ass handed to me on a plate, as US and as German, but I suspect I'd play differently second time around (starting with not moving my mortars to that useless wooden bridge, lol). Nice job!

Has anyone won with the Allies yet? I've gotten close but with only one way for the armor to cross ... it's pretty tough.

It's fun ... but very tough for the Allies.

Yes, it is a hard task, we are currently testing a new version, probably the final version, that is more balanced, The news will be:

- smoke,
- better random initial placement for german units, and
- engineer can remove the tank traps to open the central bridge.

Smoke and engineers that can actually do engineering? Sounds VERY cool! If engineer could open the central bridge, City River would become achievable for the US. Looking forward to this version... :-)

Oh yes! This would make it more of a game for the Allies!

Thanks

New version posted I hope the final one!
viewtopic.php?f=105&t=35489#p333303

The news are:
  • More balanced scenario
  • Smoke, mortars and artillery can place smoke
  • A better random initial placement for german units
  • US engineer can remove the tank traps to open the central bridge.
