Why would you need/want a demo when they are just converting the game over to a different progamming language?

Don't want to jump the gun here, but will this new version and battle packs be free for those of us who have purchased the originals or will we have to buy the new versions?
Free:)
Thanks.

I interpreted this sentence as " 'Wolves From The Sea' will be available for purchase on June 15, 2012 yo."
If my interpreter is working properly, my response is "Yay!"

I'm not sure that it is though, Matt. I think it most likely that "Wolves From the Sea" will come out in the new coding (in the autumn?) and the "battlepack" is something to keep us going in the interim. "Battlepack" suggests to me that we will be getting some more scenarios to play each other with.

I still have not played all of the scenarios that are in the game. Frankly there are plenty of troop types out there too. Have yet to get bored with the series. And looking forward to beta testing the new version hopefully before it goes on sale. The new code should be tested to death long before it hits the streets.
As I have said in the past its better to get it right first and I can wait for the modules and new game rather than to have my game crash.

You can run it in a window. Bring up the command line and enter "full-screen 0". The command line is triggered on my keyboard by the tilde key in the upper left corner. This is a French keyboard, alas, so it may be differently located on yours.

Thanks. I never knew that you could do this. Is handy when I want to do testing in the Scenario Editor and want to view another window side by side. I owe you a candy bar if we ever meet!

Wow! Very exciting news, this!
The main thing I would like to see is for FOG to be more customizable, in terms of unit types and weapons. So that users can develop scenarios in other periods, TYW, Napoleonic, ACW. (Operational Art of War did a nice job with this when someone came along with the 19th century database.) FOG is already in my opinion the best tactical level war game around. If it could move into the gunpowder era, well that would be the Holy Grail as far as I’m concerned. HPS Simulations is about the only other company trying to come out with games of this type, but FOG is a far better product in terms of game-play. So with some 17th-19th century expandability added on to what already exists this game would be a complete world-beater!
About the only other thing I can think of is more detailed terrain.
Again, very exciting news!

Hi guys
just to clarify the new version & updates for the base game FoG will be free, but any expansions wont be, including the Battle Pack.

Does it mean all the players having paid far more than 100 € for all the extensions will have to buy them again to continue playing ?

Nom d'un chien! I hope not. Presumably Iain means that new expansions would be sold, but updates to the new versions of expansions already bought would be a free download. Clarification would be welcome.

Do you mean to say "new" expansions here, Iain? That is "Wolves From The Sea" and "Oath of Fealty" and "the Battlepack".

The Battle pack ? I know its been mentioned but what does it entail? Whats in the pack i wonder
So as i understand it a new version of Fog will be available later this year perhaps and so once that is out the expansions will follow a little later? The update to version 2 we who are current owners of FOG wont have to pay to update but everything else we will.

Guys,
I've thought it's clear, but it seems that some of you don't understand, so, I'll say it again:
What you already paid for, and own, it's yours, and it will still be yours in the new version too. You'll just get a free update to the new engine for everything you already have.
Only the new addons can be bought, of course, if you want to have them.
The battlepack is an intermediary new addon, using the old engine, to fill the gap until we'll finish the new engine. It will also be ported to the new engine, same as all the other old addons.
The release of the new engine will be at the same time with the launch of a new addon. If you don't want to buy that addon, you have to just upgrade (most probably for free) everything you already have to the new engine. After the new engine release addon, another additional two are planned. That's what we've planned at this moment. It might change in the future, and if and when it will, you'll be the first to know.
Regards,
dan

Hey Dan, I thought it WAS clear until your post. I dont want to pick on semantics here but your ist sentance and last sentance contradict eachother
you said:
"You'll just get a free update to the new engine for everything you already have."
but then said
"The release of the new engine will be at the same time with the launch of a new addon. If you don't want to buy that addon, you have to just upgrade (
most probably for free) everything you already have to the new engine."
So upgrading everything you already OWN to the new engine is possibly contingient on buying the new add-on??

I think Dan made it pretty clear that if you have already bought FoG core game and all the add-ons published so far, then these will be included in the free up-grade. It sounds like he is saying that the new core game will be free and that you can port all the current add-ons to that new FoG. So no one that already owns an add-on will have to re-purchase that add-on. Any future add-ons will of course have to be bought.
That's what I read.

What I'm interested in is that cothyso/dan said there would be 2 addons after Wolves from the sea(unless I misinterpreted). This probably means Oath of Fealty and one other. But what is the other? Asia? Biblical? Something else?
