Back to the original post. LH A can move into overlap in the manoeuvre phase as follows (a la page 75):

1. The front right base of LH A drops back
2. LH A (which is now 2 x 2) advances making a simple wheel pivoting on its left front base
3. When LH A's side is parrallel to LH Z's side (probably with a small gap between the two BGs) it stops
4. LH A then shifts sideways (to its right) to make a flush side edge to side edge contact with LH Z

Step 1 is, I believe, a contraction, which is not allowed with a shift that you have in step 4 (page 45).

Which makes a bit of a mockery of the rules for moving to overlap and makes "bunging" possible.
Offset your BG so they are not lined up and at an angle. Wait for the enemy to charge. When they conform the enemy will block their fiends from moving into overlap

Ok, so how about this:

1. LH A (in its current 3 wide formation) wheels forward pivoting on its right front base
2. Once it is parrallel to LH B and LH A it moves straight ahead contacting both with its front edge
3. LH A then does a 90degree left turn and becomes a 2x2 block facing the same way as LH B
4. LH A will now be in partial side edge to side edge contact with LH Z (and also LH B for that matter)

Yep

Yep
Totally agree with Phil.

The option that contract, wheel and shift is out because shifting can't be done with contracting, but I do not see what's wrong with an "advance" including wheel followed by the turn to that the move ENDS in side to side edge contact. After all it's just a game convention that ending in front edge to side edge indicates a flank attack while side edge to side edge means "just an overlap".

If the rules do not allow a move and turn, then they should be changed. Not allowing LH A to contribute as either flank attack or an overlap is just making the game one of geometry.
