Dear Iain,
So Rome's legions are really just Japanese Samurai in disguise and you never let us know. How nasty of you. But then who came first in the tables of history? Legion was about Rome. Shogun about a later era in another part of the world no doubt never the two influencing the other. Never mind maybe this guy whose name rather exemplifies his character works for the CA people. He certainly champions them which is quite surprising since their critics are, to use a certain word, legion.
Indeed their work is so great that thousands flock to download the mods that have sprung up because of the deficiencies in that game and others. But he has a great in-depth knowledge of the games industry, it is just a pity that that knowledge is delivered in such a childish manner from a man with little in-depth knowledge of manners. Knowledge is one thing, experience another and therein perhaps lies his problem. In all the forums in all the world there is always one, so I guess you are up there alongside the greats of game-makers.
Yours with the best of fortune added,
Ross.
PS. I'm now 64 and have almost all of your games so your mum doesn't have them all.

I'm sorry if I'm expecting too much of you iain. These are just a cauple of suggestions from my own little mind.
Adherbal, if you look alittle around the internet about the appearance and perhaps behavior of gallic warriors (it's quite easy using google & such websites) I'm almost sure you'll find that the majority om them fought naked, they cut of their opponent's heads & hung them over the entrances of their huts and many of them dyed their hair with some lemon mixture. They are said to have been quite noble but barbaric.
This was how a roman historian described the gauls who were raiding the ethruscan towns to the north of Rome (and later Rome itself), the ones led by king Brennus.
I dont mean to be rude, if I seem alittle harsh its probably just because of my limited vocabulary.
I'm not entirely sure that this post is entirely correct, but the majority of the gauls still fought naked.
A cauple of more things.

I believe that the roman historian I talked about earlier was Livy.
This I took straight from some BBC-Wales-Education website:"The Celts often fought naked - and it's believed that women would fight as well. Their main weapons were the sword and spear, like the iron sword in the picture above, and they sometimes fought in horse-drawn war chariots."
Hope this isn't copyrighted...

Hmmmm...
We should be careful here....
Livy, as an historian, leaves a lot to be desired.
The Celts and Picts often get confused in the historical record...
The Celts, while they might dress naked the odd time, were usually fully clothed for battle.
The Picts, on the other hand, usually were naked when they went into battle. It was the Picts, and NOT the Celts, who would tattoo their entire bodies, and were far more "savage" in their customs and appearance.

Scouting and ambushing seems to be great. One thing I feel sad is there are many battles and subtle battle descriptions,
though once you got army strong enough, it is a kind of skelton key to open the way into any battlefields.
But another point I'm wondering is, is there Legion 2 and Alcane Legion?
I guess slitherine guys do make splendid battle simulaters, battle generators, but not so much of campaign maps and national economy systems. This does not mean they can't, I mean they got interested in and focused on operational warfare.
And the moment I saw this coming games graphics, I guess this might be the product of Alcane Legion's engine, though according to
what I read in this forum, it is not.
Anyway, I'm not yet making my mind which version I should buy. PSP or PC?
PSP version is really interesting, though comparing this comming game(in May?) with LA is also fun, I guess.
And there are still many misunderstanding about Japanese history in Europe and U.S.
For exsample, please read this news.
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/02/21/educa ... pedia.html
And here is the wikipedia's article about simabara no ran(島原の乱).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shimabara_Rebellion
As you see, I starts to fear Slitherine's game, actually. If wikipedia has such influence on college students, then how about the best selling games' influence on teenagers?

I think the games are still going on, (legion 2 and arcane legions)
they probably have been working on this for a little while and wanted to make it a surprise
But i do think that they are still working on those two games

What I'm wondering is, actully, not if Slitherine makes comming games, Alcane Legions and Legions 2.
I have killed my little doubts about that, thanks to coldknight's post and this Great Battles of Rome's anouncement.
But the balance between system and narrative is what I'm wondering.
There are many kind of objective and situations in LA, ambush, counterambush, pursuit, frontal battle, decisive battle,
outflank manuevour, moving to contact, ford crossing and much more.
Though, depicting campaign objective, the porpose of war, the reason to start and conduct warfare is such diverse,
so it could be really hard to put into a difinite system. So there comes subtle battle narrative, battle briefings.
In other words, I guess Caesar want to rule, conquer Gaul, but do Celtic kings want to conquer Italy?
Do they have same world rules which they are familiar to play upon, and easy to put into game systems, such as campaign maps,
fame bonus, trade routes and so on?

Oh wow ! this looks GREAT!
Glad you're releasing for both console and PCs Iain. This looks really neat. I hope the interface won't be too much of a hassle with PS2. I played a KOEI game , Kessen 2 which was strategy with battles and it functioned rather well as a PS-2 game. Now I gotta decide, (get a new PC, or get a PS-2) hmm.

We work pretty hard to try and ensure that our games work on the widest variety of PCs out there, so maybe you don't need a new one!

I was wondering where I can get "The History Channel: Great Battles of Rome" for the PSP in America? I don't see it listed on any of the game sites or any other website other than the UK Amazon store. Any idea about this being released in America? Thanks for your time.

We're in the process of signing deals in the US - it will be slightly behind Europe.

Will a PC demo be available, so that owners of Legion Arena can judge whether it is worth purchasing Great Battles Of Rome for the additional features and enhancements?

by coldknight
well they are both just about the same thing, so i think that not getting the demo is ok, but you should get the full game
another question, will there be different types of units(than legion arena)?
