Who is Sean?
I believe he is a sheep, but Rob can confirm that.

Do you have any view on timings for the day? It looks like we can pick up our tickets from 8am, but I'm guessing that we won't actually get in until 10.

We are scheduled to finish the games at 6:30. I do not intend over running.

FWIW if I have to play I will be bringing Normans

1 BG 8 LF bow
1 BG 6 MF crossbow
3 BG 8 HF spear
4 BG 4 knights (yes armoured ones)

It might be silly but it should finish quickly one way or the other.

Well this army was worked out on the basis of what figures I had in the box of Normans I bought for £65 at Campaign a few years ago.

I would not expect it to do well but then I didn't expect the Libyans or Mittani to do that well either ;)

My room-mate at the Strathallan has just told me he can't make it to Games Expo , so if anybody needs a bed on Friday or Saturday night, get in touch pronto. I'm arriving around mid-day on Friday to help with the setup and maybe get some boardgaming in.

Seconded. Had a great day and three very good games even if my last one was littered with schoolboy errors by me. A reminder not to re-enforce failure... It did however also provide my top moment of the day as my opponent (Rob) calmly passed his Cohesion Ttest, to which I replied "Ha! Now I'll upset them and kill the general" and rolled 11 then he failed that test. Rob was unlucky not to get the army break.

First game was an interesting shoot-out between Kevin J's 100YW Longbow and Tupi, neither of us could hit a barn door and I was mostly unprotected too!! Eventually Kevin managed to break some BGs but around the saame time I crashed in and took some points for myself. Although a losing draw at 11-9 the Tupi felt a moral victory in having not become pin cushions.

Second vs Matt with his lovely Principate Romans (geuine ones, not corrupt) for which he won a deserved prize. Didn't stop his legionaries, auxilia and cavalry all succumbing to the heavy clubs of the Tupi (shooting was pointless vs armour) though. Romans were at 3 BGs fragged likely to go imminently and I was at full health when the bell saved the day... or rather Hammy's dulcet tones... for a 13-7 winning draw to me.

Game 3 vs Rob Taylor and his Santa Hernandad foot composition. As mentioned mistakes a plenty for me as I made a mess of my right flank from deployment till the end. Rob consumately rolled me up there leaving me no option but to charge his line and hope. Which worked quite well and I was carving through his centre and centre right, especially after wasting his general. Sadly not as fast as he was carving up my right and sending LH round behind me though. Time prevented Rob getting the 1ap needed for what should have been a good win, but I think ended about 15-5 or something like that.

Picked up a couple of games at the trade stands - surprising the % difference in price from 1 stand to another. Annoyingly I only noticed after. Condotierre £20 at stand A where I bought it, £17 at B where I saw it later on

Thanks again to Hammy for the day and for entertaining my son for the last hour of the day. I assume he's CRB checked

I too want to thank Hammy for all his hard work orgainising and running the competition.

He had fun trying to sort out the draw when his computer refused to accept a copy and paste so ended up having to enter the data three time. It was also his birthday - could have though of better ways to spend the time. However, Lynda and David did buy him a chocolate birthday cake which we all ate.

Thanks to all my opponents even those that beat me. I really felt sorry for Andy Shepard who had terrible luck with his dice. He charged a unit of my longbowmen with armoured superier lance armied cavalry and he had routed by the end of the melee phased.

I charged two units of his armoured superior lance armied cavalry with a unit of average pike in two ranks and while it took longer both cavalry units were routed.

I hope Andy did better in his last game.

Thanks to all for a good day and particularly to Hammy and to Rob for the lift back . I was quite lucky with the dice and manage to lose big only the once. See you all when they next let me out.

Apologies to Paul Longmore but I've taken your rulebook ransom!!

I packed it away after you fought the Catalan Company (you gotta watch these Almughavars, very treacherous!)

Please PM me your home address & i'll send it on.

Cheers

Nick

Yes, a highly enjoyable event as ever, thanks to Hammy for the organisation and to Steve, Dino and Ian for three fun games. Now to think of what to use in the next of these events...
