Considering the armies from Usk and the changes to the rulesI think we need to make sure that there are armies based around the following:

Light chariot
Heavy Chariot
Elephant
Pikes
War Wagons (at least a Hungarian or Med German if not a Hussite)
Non pike drilled protected foot
Bow
Cataphracts

There are enough interested players so that players with limited army choices can just bring what they fancy but for those with options we should try to cover all the above at least.

A reasonable list. Comments:

Not much point in anyone bringing Hussites as we are planning to completely change the war wagons rules again.

There was only one Knights army at Usk, would like to see a few more of those.

Ming Chinese - need to test massed light artillery with supporting (exchanging) foot. Simon says he will bring this if no-one else wants to.

I already mentioned to Simon, when he asked in an email, that there were no Chariot armies and no Foot Bow armies at Usk. We need these armies to be represented at Leeds.

I think centrally organising this would be a nightmare. How about we let people choose armies, and the writers plus a few others with lots of army choice (Hammy, myself to some extent) could then balance up the missing sections?

That seems to me to be a sensible plan. Some people have little choice but others of us can hopefully make a good mix.

WoR English don't count as a bow army?

I am hoping Damian will bring his very nicely painted Early Achaemenid Persians to Leeds.

Whats the deal with th paintedness status of armies for Leeds? I've never played any tournament, but I suspect the usual deal for proper (i.e. not play-test) is that the army has to be fully painted to a reasonable standard.

I ask because though have a couple of armies painted (EIR and Alexandrian) and have access to another (Pontic), I also have a load of based but unpainted Ancient British, and hundreds upon hundreds of medieval archers, with afew assorted men at arms.

These latter are the reason I started looking at historical wargaming in the first place. I found them all for a tenner in a junk shop.

So, if you'd like I could probably bring HYW English, in their core troops only configuration. I'm guessing that would cover the foot bow army!

The only problem is that I can't see how I could them all painted in the few weeks till Leeds...

Thanks for the offer - we do want a good mix of armies present to help with the feedback. As Leeds to technically open to the public, I think we would prefer to see painted armies on the table that are as historically representative as possible - there are plenty of play-testers with plenty of different armies.

* What time are we starting?
Around 9.00am going on 9.30am ??“ or whenever I get there!

* What happens if I don??™t have an army that fits the allowed list?
There are lots of army lists (well over a 100) it should not be a problem.

* All three rules writers will be attending the play-test at Leeds.

* There will be a terrain prize offered at Leeds, judged by the rules writers attending.

* We need to have a relatively firm idea of numbers by the end of this week (table hire is required). For those that have said they will let me know, would you please let me know if you are attending by EOB Sunday please.

Sounds good. We need a volunteer please to bring Ming Chinese. (It may be the new cheesy "super army" - lots of BGs of light artillery (rocketeers) each with a supporting BG of undrilled unprotected HF halberdiers with Heavy Weapon that can exchange with them if the enemy charge the rocketeers. It does not matter that the halberdiers are unprotected because they are screened from shooting by the rocketeers, and in melee their HW cancels enemy armour advantage).

Well I have already submitted my army list to Bruce. Suffice it to say that it is one of the historically successful armies that gets a raw deal in DBM.

Leeds is in Yorkshire, just off the M62





More seriously the tournament will be in the Churchill room of the Royal Armouries in Leeds. Park in the multi storey (there may be some clever procedure to get cheaper parking) then go through the main entrance along past the cafe and shop bear slightly left, up the stairs and it's straight in front of you.
