1. What are the three 'counters?' Are these showing which hexes/provinces I control? Is there an army or armies counter(s) somewhere there too?

yes the right map is the political map only, the left map is for movement.

the status of a province are -
capital province
home province
garrisoned province (occupy)
annexed province - after 5 turn a garrisoned province become an annexed province

right but you could not have more army than half the number of your province.
so with 5 province you could only have 3 armies

right Cl = lowland ; Ch = highland and briton faction is both
we are currently 12 players for 15 faction, so some players have 2 factions until we will be 15.
for exemple parthian player control also a gallic faction. not a big deal are those 2 faction are very far from the other

4. I received an email from a dice server. Do we receive all rolls in the game? Or will you just let us know results?

And just what does this mean? (Told you...lots of dumb questions...esp anything involving numbers!!):

macedonia

Dice Results:
-------------

Result of the throw of dice "1d100 <= 20" :

8 = 8 ... success

I think that means you must have asked for an alliance w macedon You suceeded!

actually, question for Billgber

Are we supposed to be getting the results for all players?
I assume the email with the header of your own country is Your active dice for a decision you made and not that of another player trying to make an alliance?

I ask because one of my failures for Pergamum was for the Spanish.... I did not request an alliance from spain, but Selucid and didnt get any notice of that roll vs Selucid....

I was of middle to send an email the summary of the alliance result.

each time 10 players receive dice result. there is unfortunately a limitation to 10 email with the dice server.

each time you will receive dice result the same way.

the object
the target
the condition
and the result

the object was Rome alliance
the target macedonia
the condition result must be <= 20
the result success

A question, what happens if I move to a non faction province such as Bactria? It is not next to any other faction. I assume that it is automatically occupied?

not realy in Bactria

Inactive Faction

Bactria, Pontic, Nubia, Jewish are inactive faction.
if an other nation enter an Inactive Faction an army is immediatly activated and rulled by the player with the highest score.
Jewish become a faction as soon as Selucia loose control of this province.

Is the reserve army counted towards the total I am allowed? I have 3 provinces at start...so am only allowed my current army plus the reserve? Or can I raise a second army?

And when do I raise new armies or replenish reduced ones?

It may get a little messy with tracking armies of different points. Maybe a simple solution of having a minimum counter size of say 200 pts with a maximum stack of 3 - which gives us the 600 ponit max army size? Just a suggestion.

no, reserve army don't count as total allowed.
that mean next turn you will be able to built a 2nd armies if you don't loose the first.
you will be able to raise this army at start of the next move.

a new armies could not be built bellow 600pnt or to have more than 600pnt
also you must first replenish your armies before to be able to create a new one

Are some "hexes/provinces" open for grabs at start? There are three in Spain, a couple north Italy, some east of Illyria. Can we just move an army onto one of these to try and claim it?

Sicily and Crete are different, right? If I move into Sicily this lets Carthage and others assume it is war between us?

not realy different, the war is not automatic but if you move to sicilly or crete it will be a cassus belli

When a aggressor occupies natural allied province of a faction without war, this faction have a Cassus Belli again aggressor.
When a aggressor declare war again an allied this faction have a Cassus Belli again aggressor.

A Casus belli permit to declare war or to break alliance without any alliance penalty.
Casus belli permit also to declare war immediatly to an allied.

other province as Iberia couls also create a cassus belli because there are natural allied for some faction.

but right, you could move in any of this province without war declaration

Am not quite sure just what natural allied means:

"Natural allied

some faction have natural allied.
those allied are part of the faction army list.

natural allied are

Rome until 105 : Nubia
Iberia
Rome from 105 to 25: Arab
Nubia
Jewish
Bithynia
Bithynia doesn't exist at start, there is part of Pergan.
When Pergan loose control of this province,Bithynia become a natural allied

Does the above mean that Rome from beginning of game until 105 is allied with Nubia (what is this exactly??..i don't see it on the map) and Iberia???

And that from 105 it is allied with all those listed under it???

King Attalus of Pergamum demands: Who are these Macedonian nuts who dare invade us? Dont they know no good Karma comes from attacking a land with bad ju ju? (or something like that)
to the chief of Spain, we are not unhappy we are allies but our carrier pigion must have been carried to the wrong lands by the westerly winds...

King Brennus of the Hill Men wishes his lowland cousin king well and will always cherish the drinking cup made from his soon to be cloven skull.
