OK - there is a new version available to download from:
http://www.slitherine.com/files/SysTray ... eta004.zip
+ should not send notifications when under a fullscreen app (so should deal with FoG). Note: I'm not sure how this will deal with multi-mon setups. If anyone is running one, please let me know how it behaves.
+ updated the beta expiration
Please install and let me know how it fares!
Cheers

pipfromslitherine wrote:Sorry guys - got caught up with BBC stuff and this has slipped off my radar. Haven't managed to get the fix to prevent it from showing messages after you've been running FoG, but I will try and get a version out with an extended expiration for those of you who are using it currently.
Cheers

BBC Stuff? Oh, what's that?
P.S. New version installed and running

OK, I've been running version 4 for 5 mins and it's driving me mad already
Every 30 seconds to a minute it 'pops' and displays a bubble to tell me I have no games ready.
I feel like shouting "Yes, I know, you told me that a minute ago!".
So far 2 'pops' while writing this!

Doh! Sorry about that! I guess that is what Betas are for

. It was part of the testing out the fullscreen stuff. I will throw up a new version immediately to save your sanity

.

I have replaced the zip with a new version without the constant "no games" updates. Same filename, so if you have downloaded already, just grab it again (it's only 30k

).

Thanks Pip.
Given that some people, like Amaz_Ed, may like it, then it'd be good if it was a selectable option.
One new bug/feature I've noticed is that each 'pop' only tells you about the net-change from the previous notification. The problem here is that if you miss the 'pop' that tells you that you have a new turn (as I tend to do now I'm mentally blanking the pops) then when you do look at a later pop it tells you there are no turns ready, when there are

I think each pop needs to tell you about the total picture, not just the changes.

You won't be getting any of the 'no games ready' popups other than at the very beginning of your session (if of course it is the case). It's not great protocol to have an app popping up every minute, would people really want that? I assumed he was being ironic

. It's always only told you of the change since the last popup. I guess we could make it give the cumulative total as well (e.g. "New game available, you now have 5 waiting games").
I guess the issue is that it's hard to know if you have spotted the balloon or not. I could change the icon so it shows whether you have any waiting games at all?
But please feel free to let me know any ideas for features - I can't promise to do all of them, but it's worth having the ideas down on paper.
Cheers

Ah, I guess that wasn't obvious to me because it only popped once.

That would be great!

I wasn't being ironic. Although it isn't perfect it did mean that if I looked away from the pc for a while I didn't have to check my email or the game itself to see if I had a turn, it told me, regularly. Ideally I would like to be able to click on the icon in the system tray and see whats going on whenever I choose.

Which is precisely what the version I didn't quite get a chance to finish today does

. Hopefully get a new version out tomorrow.

New version available for download:
http://www.slitherine.com/files/SysTray ... eta005.zip
+ now pulses if there are games available
+ left clicking the icon will pop up telling you the total number of games you have waiting
+ improved queuing of messages to prevent you losing any notifications
Please try it out and let me know how it feels
Cheers

Hi Pip,
Version 5 doesn't seem to refresh the number of games available when clicking the icon in the systray. I had 5 games, I played 4 (the other is broken) about 30 mins ago, I just clicked it and it still says 5 games even though I only have the 1 broken game.

Darn it! You're right

. This would be much easier if I actually played FoG!
New version up which should correctly list your available games.

Thanks for helping get this set up, hopefully people will find it useful one we iron out all the bugs.

You... you ... you don't play FoG?

How do you survive?

Seems to work fine. I do have a suggestion. Would it be possible to have the slitherine icon in the task bar to be (for example) colored red when there are no games turns and colored green when there are game turns. You would be able to tell with a glance and not have to have possible annoying pop ups.
