Dave would obviously say Skythian because he has no imagination. For a new player I would say Hun as it is more forgiving with the superiors.

Or Ilkhanids as they are Superior and drilled.

Hi
Just a quick point, if you were playing a competition game with less than the required number of figures per base, as required by the rules, and your opponent objected to this, could you become disqualified from the competition for fielding an 'illegal' army?
I would point you to page 127 top right of the page in the rule book
* Lesser numbers of figures per base can be used if the figures or the stands they are attached to are too large to fit the normal number on our standard base widths.
* Base depths can be large than standard if the figures or the stans they are attached to are too large to fit on our standard base depths.

Would 15mm Huns or Skythians be better for a tournament?
Sorry for the noobish questions but it is hard to get a feel for FoG until I am actually in it. Too busy for now, but I am trying ito get a jump on some painting.
To be perfectly honest, if you paint some Light Horse up they could do for either Huns or Skythian as they aren't massively different figures. Despite Phil's confident assertion above, Huns can be either superior or average, so it doesn't matter.
So it comes to a matter of support - the problem with the Western Hunnic is the Armoured, Bow, Cavalry are Undrilled. This to me makes them a non-starter. You can get one BG of protected Lancers and some allied BG's, but they simply aren't as good as the Armoured Lancers the Skythians get.
In addition the Skythians get some rubbish LF to bulk up the army. So in my opinion Skythians offer a more flexible approach.
Superior LH are good, but IMO don't add sufficiently for the additional 2 points per base - I would rather have 12 bases of Average than 10 bases of Superior. I use my LH to shoot and to ride down LF - you don't need to be superior to do that! What is much more important is not being removed when you have lost two bases. Just have to be more careful with average troops and what they fight!

Would'nt the person with the superior LH just charge anything on your side in reach being average I take it you'd have to evade, thus cutting the shooting your able to bring to bear.
To be honest I'm just looking for an answer to fighting superior LH is it just to try and pick on some BG's and outshoot the?.

No - depends on the situation - i.e. who is disrupted, who had the overlaps etc, etc. One difference in quality is only half a POA so Superior LH charging Average LH is by no means a certainty. Normally the first to go disrupted dies.

No.
People are more understading and would not be so rude.

Been a while since I looked at this thread but it really has shot off!
My mate ended up going with a Swiss pike block and is currently building 28mm Romans using the FoG packs. I am looking ot grab some of the Celts.
As so 20mm platic minis I'll have too put in my 0.2c I like them alot more over some of the 28mm out there in terms of prive and trying to base but I have have to say we've had no really problem with the FoG designed guys.
