Welsh were fighting Welsh. Melees.....one for each table section, of an 8 foot long table, at the center line (4 melees). Starting on my left flank was a draw. Moving slowly to my right....he won I killed his general/troop cmder. Now the third melee......I won he killed my general/troop cmder. Last melee on my right flank was another draw.
Both of us had tests to take because of dead muckie mucks. On both sides, the units they had been with, the units that had won the round of melee took off.
Before that game..........For several weeks when/if I put my army general with a unit in melee.....Rudy would give the enemy dice a 12.
By the by......We don't bother anybody but rudy for help with dice roles. He listens too....Oh yeah to my opponent's pleas for 12s!

Horror Stories?
Dodgey curry the night before a big tournament.
An opponent that takes nearly 2 hours to deploy because he knows whats coming, then takes 10 minutes to decide where his camp goes.
Some random pastey 'still lives at home with his mum' guy passing by your table and proclaiming to everyone how much he hates light horse armies, then wanders back to his table where he is deploying his Swiss army....in a corner, and he needed a soul searching walk around the venue to help him decide where he is going to deploy his camp......which of course is a scratch built futuristic death ray he designed himself.
Having your desperately needed flankmarch arrive, and all three BGs are stragglers.
Dodgey curry during a tournament.
Having your long line of offensive spear fighting multiple enemy BGs roll 32 combat dice needing 4s, and getting 1 hit......just 1 freakin hit.
Trying to concentrate on a tournament game but 2 tables over some pastey 'still lives at home with his mum' guy is making "PEW PEW PEW" sound effects everytime his opponent shoots at his swiss pikemen.
During deployment your opponent is verbally attacked by some random guy for having a photocopied army list on hand. Fortunately the random guy goes back to talking to his friends about the latest movie he torrented off the web, the three TV episodes he has ripped on a memory stick attached to his car keys, the music collection he's uploaded to his car stereo, using the latest "YouTube to MP3" software he has downloaded on an illegal copy of Windows Vista on a 2bit ripoff PC.
Dodgey curry after a tournament.

Going to a tournement and coming 7th, and having your three friends/clubmates come 1st, 2nd and 3rd, and then having to put up with their crap forever......
....and that dodgy curry

Horror...
Charging a fragmented bg of prot crossbowmen with a steady unit of prot longbow sword to be disrupted at impact, routing after melee.
Charging a bg of 4 LF firearm on a hill with a unit of 6 mf prot hv weapon. Failing to win the combat for 3 turns, adding an overlap of arm lgtsp sw and still spending the remainder of the game drawing combat.
Running out of time in a tournament needing 2 points to break your opponent and being 2mu from the opponents baggage.

Horror - Winning the first eight combats only to see your oponent pass every death roll and cohesion test and go on to lose the game 25-0.

My horror story in Rome.
First game (Komnean Byzantine), after the deployment my opponent (Catalan Company) said "I'm sure I'm going to loose".
I thought the same, to win easily.
Good terrain for me. He deployed 2 BG's of Almughavars in a little Uneven.
I moved first and started to shoot with 3 BG's on th Almughavars. So my opponent decided to charge and (what I hoped

) they resulted in open terrain.
So in the following bound I charged with my superior KN's 1 BG of Almughavars (+ POA for me plus the general in combat).
I made 4 dice with 3
I made 3 dice with 5 and 6.
In the cohesion test I made 2 and 1, re-rolled 1 and made again 1 ............. so I became FRAGMENTED
I drawed the melee and then made the break-off.
My opponent decided to charge and obviously I broke (I had also a general with my BG)

Mine was Parthian against Sassanid when the rules first appeared. I managed to catch a Sassanid Cav BG with Cats in the front, disrupting him on impact. All looking good but he stands in the melee and disrupts me, and I lose a base. I his bound he loses and falls to Frag'd. In my next go I get a LH BG into his flank and a TC to the Cats to bolster - which fails. Now he is Fragmented and Fighting in 2 directions. He WINS both combats, and I lose ANOTHER Base from the Cats. Cap it all the Cats break and the LH are disrupted. Despite having remainded Frag'd he never lost a base.

One would have to assume your oponent would not see it as such a great result

Can we include England's 1st inninngs at Headingley as a horror story ?

by nikgaukroger
Well we can't include it in batting

My pathetic pikes

Yeah, I've got one too.
My pikes charge into some mounted, armored, crossbow, swordsmen. For impact, he hits with all 4 dice (needing 5s). So I loose and roll snake eyes for the morale check. The very next melee phase was an exact repeat of the impact phase. So I break and run, only to be caught and run down.
So some might think that this was just a short round of bad dice rolling; well, that was the combat where I had the best odds. You should have seen how fast my pikes and cav fell to his knights and defensive spear!
