The Byzantine player receives 9 gold this round, and currently holds 9 gold.

Round III: phase 1. Upkeeping and Raising Byzantine Armies

Posted: Thu Sep 15, 2022 6:07 am
by kronenblatt
The Byzantine Player eliminates armies that he can not afford or does not wish to keep, pays upkeep costs for all his existing armies (1 x strength), and raises new armies (2 x strength).

SnuggleBunnies: you currently have 9 gold, of which 6 (4+2) will be used to upkeep your existing two armies (unless you decide to eliminate any or both of them). How do you want to spend your gold this round?

Let's see, 4 gold is the minimum to raise a new force. So, spend 2 gold to upgrade my strength 2 army to strength 3, and keep 1 gold in reserve.

Round III: phase 2. Enemy Movements

I, as the Enemy Player, assign my two received movement points as follows:

1. Vandals from Africa to Egypt.
2. Persians (again!) from Anatolia to Ancyra.

Your turn, SnuggleBunnies.

The emperor himself moves to stem the Persian threat, while his deputies march to hold the breadbasket of the empire, Egypt.

Question remaining is army lists. I would propose Byzantine 600-649 for this phase, as we can then neatly slot 650-739 for phase 4 and 740-903 for phase 5.

Of course the lack of actual overlap with the Vandals this turn is a bit awkward, so we can alter that if you like. For Sassanid Persian, the 629-651 list overlaps so no problem there.

Sounds good, doesn't need to be to strict overlaps between army lists, so the Vandal list will be fine. (It's the 'Armoured Noble Lancers' only list, right? :) )

Absolutely fantastic concept to combine FoG with the concept behind that game in a simple, fun fashion.

May I ask how you did the map and so on?

This looks really well done (like your other campaigns) and original even for something based off an existing game's map. For example: base map, moving counters, turn by turn changes to 'map' based on player input etc. I've only experimented on an elementary level before with maps for games so I'm curious how you went about this.

If you want, you can PM me or send me a discord message at Visp#4092 (to keep unrelated discussion to the campaign out of the thread) about any of this. I should be on the discord

1. ANCYRA: kronenblatt (Sassanid Persian 591-628 AD, 1600 FP) versus SnuggleBunnies (Byzantine 600-649 AD AD, 1600 FP). Mediterranean Agricultural.

SnuggleBunnies (Byzantines) defeats kronenblatt (Persians) 43-7

GG, heroic work by the Raw Skoutatoi

2. EGYPT: kronenblatt (Vandal 500-534 AD, 1520 FP) versus SnuggleBunnies (Byzantine 600-649 AD, 1560 FP). Middle Eastern Agricultural.

SnuggleBunnies (Byzantine) defeats kronenblatt (Vandals) 57-23

The memest list in the game, kronenblatt actually made good initial headway before the inflexibility of an all lancer list really started to hurt him.

A valiant effort, GG.

Round III: phase 5. Byzantine Income

The Byzantine player receives 9 gold this round and, with 1 gold in treasury, thus currently holds 10 gold.

Round IV: phase 1. Upkeeping and Raising Byzantine Armies

Posted: Tue Nov 15, 2022 6:37 am
by kronenblatt
The Byzantine Player eliminates armies that he can not afford or does not wish to keep, pays upkeep costs for all his existing armies (1 x strength), and raises new armies (2 x strength).

SnuggleBunnies: you currently have 10 gold, of which 7 (4+3) will be used to upkeep your existing two armies (unless you decide to eliminate any or both of them). How do you want to spend your gold this round?

We'll keep it simple this turn, pay the 7 for upkeep and the remaining 3 gold into the treasury. I feel like we may need it in the next phase...

Round IV: phase 2. Enemy Movements

1. Huns from Moesia to Bulgaria.
