I think one important issue is to purchase a balanced force so you are kind of prepared for whatever force-mix your opponent has.
It is a guessing game at first. Then probably some regrets

Thanks Mike, we'll see if we can see anything about this.

It looks like the connection failures are because of a timed-out request, so we'll investigate this as a priority

Also, you get asked if you want to try to connect again. But selecting 'yes' never does anything.
You have to answer 'no' and then try your luck.

Thanks, Shards.

Another successful login at 14:55 (BST).

Do you need me to continue to report success/failure, or do you have enough data for now?

Hi, I think this is enough for now.

I'm pretty sure that I know the basic reasoning for the issue now, it's just a matter of finding a convenient fix for you all!

My opponent is pretty quick so we're rattling the turns off. I'm just not logging out, so I'm able to stay connected.

I'll have to logout when I shutdown tonight, though, and fingers crossed for tomorrow.

Really appreciate your help with this, Shard.

Up to fifth place, although I'd be surprised if I can maintain that sort of ranking. I'll enjoy it while I can. It's embarrassing to admit but I never have quite got a perfect understanding of how flanking works. Sometimes it kicks in and other times it doesn't. Doesn't seem related to whether or not a flanking unit has attacked either. Hmm. Maybe the flanking unit has to not be adjacent to an enemy unit? Or it's just random...

Your flanking unit needs to be in the opposite side to the attacking unit and have no other enemy unit adjacent to it.

Ah so that's what the deal is... Although properly speaking it's not "opposite" opposide is it? If that were the case you could only have one flanking bonus when there's a potential for three. Might be better to say it has to be adjacent to the enemy unit being attacked, not adjacent to the friendly attacking unit, and not adjacent to any second enemy unit. Ultimately it's a fascinating game mechanic. And a perfect illustration of how deep this game can go.

A reminder @Brenmusik, you need to play both of your paired games, It looks like you and Mike are only playing one of them at the moment :)

Hello! Thanks for the PM about this topic- was wondering why it's so quiet in the rest of the forum. We are about half-way on our games as I think my opponent is in the US, while I'm in the UK.

What's this about ranks btw? Where do you see that?

You're currently 8th, but we're having some issues with the leaderboard, so it may be different to that in reality :D

Not everyone has the email reminders turned on, thus the PM :-)

Yeah if my opponent could only be bothered to take their turns more than once a day I'm sure I'd be first ;)
