Div 2 result.
DryNick (Carthaginian (Hannibal in Africa) 202 BC) defeats Darkwater247 (Roman 425-492 with Alans) 59 - 27
The game started with the Carthaginian having a slight advantage in the infantry and the romans in the cavalry. Fortunately for me, my elephants managed to hold off the enemy cavalry flank, until my infantry overwhelmed the enemy's and secured the game. Could have gone the other way easily if it weren't for some unfortunate pushbacks.
Great game, Darkwater247!

A few key zoc stops by the hoplites, along with some ganging up on a few lancers, sealed it for the Bulgars. Those lancers were tough, but not enough to break the Spartans. GG to my opponent!

Yep, useful lesson for me. But great (frustrating) fun. I'll need to reform, because I have come to realise that it's difficult to assemble enough firepower in a small horde army like the Bulgars to be effective. Many thanks, Aetius and well played neutralising me and my efforts. To be continued.

There was a high hill with rough ground in the middle left of my side of the map. The Spartans avoided the hill and managed to get an early rout on some lights but more importantly one of his heavy units. The Spartan units then knocked out the Romans one by one while fending off the mediums and archers. Thanks for the game, I believe the game was closer than the score shows.

OK Div 2 players have been pretty active already, so I'm posting a first scoreboard for them. Div 1 has only 1 completed game reported so far, so I'm not bothering with it yet

The Byzantines couldn't get a good volley into the Spartans, and that probably was the deciding factor as Spartan infantry was much superior to the Byzantine skoutatoi. Their cavalry also couldn't get around to flank, so the Spartan hoplites won the day. GG and thanks for playing snooky!

Great game with a twist! I almost lost this game in the beginning, (diff of 25%) but my flank finally overtook the enemy line and turned it around.
Thank you kronenblatt, well played!

Blagrot (British 600-1030 AD with Viking 780-899 Allies) beat DryNick (Carthage (Hannibal in Africa) 202BC) 50-21
An infantry duel this one with one strong flank each. My raw spears, defensive spears and byronthic foot lasted better than the phoenicians while the good units finished up the Carthaginian centre, one epically unlucky fragment on a unit ready to flank was harsh tho. Thanks for the game DryNick

The Spartans were slightly outnumbered, but their armored or superior hoplites were much stronger than the British shieldwalls, and without a flank attack they couldn't stand up to the Greeks. GG and thanks for playing!

Varangian Guard started routing Punic units before the battle could really get going, would've been down to the wire had the routs not come so quickly.

Division 2 result.
Tomoegozen(Vikings with Irish allies) defeats Blagrot(British with dirty traitorous Viking allies) 62 - 35.
A game of 'capture the hill'
I rushed on to a small hill on my left but early success saw half of my army chasing retreating British off of the hill in order to finish them off. The remaining Vikings were then subject to a concerted attack by the rest of the British who re-took the hill. Fortunately for me the re-taking of the hill cost the British too many troops and the severely weakened British who were now on the hill were finished off by the returning Vikings. A close game with some major swings in fortune.
Thanks to Blagrot for a great game.

Darkwater247 (Romans 425 with Alan allies) defeats Tomoegozen(Vikings with Irish allies) 64-30
A game that could have gone either way, The Romans sent out their Alan allies to harrass and where mostly seen off by the Viking archers, but did manage to cause some disturptions. Untill the inf on both sides finally clashed, The romans managed to narrowly edge it, with the help of a returning unit of horse archers and a unit of bowmen that wouldn't break. I was very lucky with a few combats and on the final turn, 2 of my units where finally distrupted, however a 3rd rallied from broken (skewing the score a bit). I think another turn and it would have gone to the Vikings.
Tomoegozen was a pleasure to play, Hopefully we will get another game soon.
Cheers

Tomoegozen (Vikings with Irish allies) defeats kronenblatt (Bulgar) 42- 8.
The Bulgars turned up with a scary amount of shooting in the form of horse archers and massed archers which came as a surprise to the Viking commander who was expecting lots of nasty lancers...
The terrain helped the Vikings approach relatively un-molested by arrow fire , closing to hand to hand all across the battlefield as quickly as their little animated legs would carry them. We were very fortunate to avoid much in the way of disruptions on the way in. Once the Viking and Irish foot had contacted the squishy Bulgar foot and horse archers it was all over pretty quickly.
Thanks to kronenblatt for the game. It was a tough match up for the Bulgars.

Tomoegozen (Vikings with Irish allies) defeats snooky51 (Byzantine) 71 - 41.
A real bloodbath! The Vikings spent most of the later half of the game trying to stay away from the elite Kataphracts and the Varangian guard which they managed to just about do for long enough to take out pretty much everything else of the Byzantine army. It cost them dearly though! The game had been nip and tuck all the way through until the last turn to be honest and could have gone either way.
thanks to snooky51 for a great game.
