Looks really great! Thank you!
I try also to experiment with the skins...
The skin function above the unit model
is tricky, so the side of the units are mirrored, if you
want to put a special sign on.
Especially the British vehicles in Afrika got
a three color scheme like this:

Do you try that also somewhere?

A question: most of the skins are labeled as "germany". Are them usable also for other parties/nations? If so, how to do it?

Either you edit in more factions separated by comma into the skins.txt, like:
factions = hungary, germany, ussr
This makes the skin selectable for those three countries.
BTW, people who do scenarios can also script units to be skinned by trigger, then the faction limits are ignored. This gets improved with Red Storm, when this is out you can also unskin by trigger.
But it's also possible to make a skin available for all factions by simply leaving out the faction entry in skins.txt alltogether, like:
[WINTER_5]
id = 22
texture = winter_5
category = land
This skin works for any country, provided its units do accept skins. Which is a work in progress still, but the list is growing.

Change the last part of the skin-image file to "_land_
all.png". Or some specific other faction.

Did I miss something or what's the advantage using the "skins.txt" file to just placing the image files inside the \Skins folder?
Editing the skins file seems like a complicated way to achieve the same thing.

Yeah, for me it works fine, just moving the images into the proper folder. At least, in GKM it's all I had to to.

I think all custom skins should be available for download from the crate.
Preferably downloaded into the correct folder for instant use.

It seems, that the "randomized pixel overlay" over the main skin brings additional color harmonization.
Do you use also GIMP for these effects?

The "randomized pixel overlay" allows to have a more accentuated matte effect and for winter textures to have a dirty effect.

Not at the moment. I only used paint.net but I would have to switch to GIMP because it is missing the airbrush for example.
