Classical Antiquity: arrange your matches here

Classical Antiquity
Instructions
Players are free to arrange their matches in any order they wish. Either player may set up the challenge in this section. Remember to PM your opponent as well as placing the challenge and password in this thread.
For matches in this section players will select
"Open Battle" and will field a
"Medium" army and choose a
"Medium" battlefield unless otherwise directed. Players are free to customise their army before each battle so
"Default" is the correct Force Selection option. Terrain will always be
"Pot Luck" unless otherwise specified. There are no exceptions to this standard set-up for a match.
If a match is set-up incorrectly for any reason then it must be re-started as soon as possible.
The final % scores for each player are taken from the in-battle display in the top left-hand corner of the screen and not the Final Losses screen that appears after the battle has ended where losses are adjusted for wounded and deserted troops.
Reporting the result of a match is the responsibility of the winning player. However, if you are the loser in a match and notice that the result has not been posted within 24 hours please post the result yourself. This helps to keep the league tables up to date.
Please be sure to familiarise yourself with both the Rules of Competition and the Players' Guide.
The Rules are here . . .

The army lists for Classical Antiquity, Late Antiquity and Classical Indian are now up. You have a couple of weeks to practice with your armies.

Will we find out our army allocations prior to the start of this league, please?
Also - what does P mean in the matrix? P W D L - win, draw, loss I am assuming. Not sure what P means.

I will publish the first three rounds of matches a couple of days before the tournament starts. I don't want people to start playing matches before 1st February. Everyone already knows that they are going to be playing with 3 out of the 6 armies featured in those first three rounds.
Also - what does P mean in the matrix? P W D L - win, draw, loss I am assuming. Not sure what P means.
P= the number of matches Played.

"P" usually indicates matches played.
EDIT....Beaten by a minute.....story of my life

Can you help me solve this puzzle?

In the themed event the first stage is divided in to groups of 4 players who play each other once. There are 4 armies that can be used. The fixture schedule looks like this . . .
Round 1
Fred v John
Patrick v Robert
Round 2
John v Patrick
Robert v Fred
Round 3
Fred v Patrick
John v Robert
So far so good. Now we need to add the armies. There are 4 - Red, Blue, Yellow, Green. Green is bit stronger than the others. So each player will use 3 of the 4 armies and that is quite easy to allocate . . .
Round 1
Fred (Red) v John (Blue)
Patrick (Yellow) v Robert (Green)
Round 2
John (Red) v Patrick (Green)
Robert (Yellow) v Fred (Blue)
Round 3
Fred (Green) v Patrick (Red)
John (Yellow) v Robert (Blue)
It looks OK but Patrick has to play against the Green army twice (the strong army so that is a bit unfair) and Robert has to play against the Yellow army twice. Is there a way of allocating the armies so that no-one plays against the same army twice? Any help would be appreciated.

My solution if I didn't make any errors.
Fred (green) v John (blue)
Pat (yellow)v Robert (red)
Pat (green) v Fred (blue)
Rob (yellow) v John (red)
John (green) v Pat (red)
Rob (blue) v Fred(yellow)
No one plays green more than once. In addition the player that never got to play green, also never has to face against it. Every player that has to face green will get their turn at the wheel. Someone will however play against the same army twice (yellow) twice.
There is no way around someone playing against the same army twice. So my solution is to mitigate it by not having it be the best army.

Substitute the Red and Green armies in your example. That means only one player plays with or against green (stronger one)

Thanks, Mike. that sounds like the best solution really. I couldn't find a way of avoiding at least one player fighting against the same army twice and I wondered if it was a mathematical impossibility to achieve that result.
I like the fact that the player who doesn't get the strongest army doesn't have to fight against it either.

Thanks Martin. That is an improvement on what I came up with, for sure.

Fred still plays again an army twice (blue), that's unavoidable. But the suggested setup, when one army is stronger, is a good one, as you said - for all the reasons Mike mentioned!

great work.

There have been a couple of withdrawals in the last 24 hours . . .
Aryaman has withdrawn from Late Antiquity but he will be continuing in Classical Antiquity. ruski_canuck will take his place in Late Antiquity.
Lancier has withdrawn from Classical Indian and will not be available as a reserve. shadowblack will take his place in Classical Indian.

Is anyone here who did not have the chance to join any section of the Digital League? If so I can give him (one of) my place(s), considering that I join five of them, and now I feel guilty. Let me know if this is the case via a pm and of course if Pete is ok with that.
