Thanks, Dortmund for the best battle i have fought, although, of course, it ended the wrong way!

This battle involved one lucky rally for Dorty and one untimely break for one of my pike and shot.

Luck was indeed the determiner.

It reminds me of the old saying, "It is good to be a good general, it is better to be a lucky general."

Pod 3 result:

rbodleyscott (Transylvanian 1632-1645) (0%) won vs ggarynorman (Imperial 1619-1632) (55%).

Another unwary Imperialist army strayed too close to the forests surrounding Castle Drahcir.

Lest I forget, I do not Always lose.

Shawkhan2 won as the Spanish-Imperials 1543-1559 34% v. ggarynorman's French 1550-1559 67%

Lots of the domino effect morale disruptions leading to the final end. The trick is to fight everyone But the Swiss keils I think.

Aryaman Parliament 54% victorious over deadtorius Scots (65%)

A real bloody battle. The entire center had become broken with some sporadic fighting on both flanks. On the Scottish left Parliament outnumbered a few Scottish pike and shot units with some Cavaliers and foot, on the other side of the battlefield there was a major brawl in some woods that had lasted most of the game with the Scots only managing to rout a single raw pike and shot unit. As the Scots set up for some nice rear charges on their Parliament foes, I managed to break an enemy pike and shot unit and pursued right in front of a Cavalier in perfect rear charge position. The next turn 2 pike and shot units were routed and Parliament won a narrow victory. A truly bloody battle to the end. Thank you for a great game Aryanman

Vadmin84 Catholic (8%) victorious over deadtorius Bohemian (50%)

The Bohemians started to slide badly right from the first cavalry match up. I had moved up so that the Catholic cavalry would end up in a stream when we contacted but it seemed to make no difference as I was unable to inflict any damage on their cavalry. In the center and Bohemian right the tercios ended up in a major push of pike which the Bohemians could not make any headway with, managing to rout a single raw later tercio and losing at least 2 of their own tercios. To make matters even worse, a single Catholic dragoon was fragged by shooting, passed being charged and then evaded, and then in the ultimate snub rallied to disordered a few turns before the end of the game Well played by Vadmin congratulations on your win.

Pod 1 result:

guillaume (spanish 35/48) (12%) won vs Batesmodel(French 43/48) (40%).

this Spanish was in a good defensive position uphill and was able to repulse the french before their devastating charge.

Howdy!

Now that I'm back in the saddle, here -- I've taken a look at how many games have been played.

Pods 2 & 3 are doing well. We're lagging quite a bit in Pod 1 and we should pick up the pace, some. (That includes me.)

I'd like to have Phase I (current pods) completed before the end of March so I can announce the new pod organizations and get them going. So I think it is reasonable that everyone try to complete half their games by the end of February. That will give you a month to complete the other half. Should be easy to do in principle.

I just don't think it's fair to have a bunch of people done and having to wait on a few dawdlers to move forward.

One thing I might do, if I have to, is force Phase I completion. I may announce a date in March and I'll score everyone at that time and push into Phase II based on the scores on that date. The one good side-effect will be that most of the dawdlers will probably be together in Pod C.

Pod 1 Result:

pantherboy (Italian 1494-1530) (22%) won vs flatsix518 (French 1494-1525) (50%).

Pantherboy selected an entirely mounted/light troops army and capably outplayed me. At one point I thought I'd started some decent counter-play, but made a blunder that exposed one of my gendarmes to a flank attack that led to breakthroughs that pretty much wrecked me. Was a good game, with me going uphill the whole time.

Dortmund (ottoman turkish 1618-1629) 56% won ggarynorman (polish 1618-1632) 62%

One of the best battles that I've played, with a changing result turn after turn as our units fleed. The very wide battlefield has made very interesting cavalry clashed. You can imagine by the result that it has been a very bloody battle where any side could have won. At the end we had very few units to move.

Thanks a lot to ggarynorman for this game. I've enjoyed every single turn.

Result from Pod 2 - Rumguff's Poles (54%) scraped by to defeat Cavehobbit's Danish (62%) on the very last turn before nightfall.

A long grinding cavalry melee on both flanks saw both sides whittled down while in the centre Janissaries skulked dishonourably amongst a small forest and patches of rough ground. Their musketry was sufficient to turn the odd unit of kurassiers and a tercio or two eventually turning things in favour of the poles.

Thanks for a very hard fought game that was nail-biting till the very last turn.

Another one: Rumguff's Italians (37%) defeated Hrothgar's French (66%).

A french force of 5 keils, two guns and a heavy escort of Gendarmes faced off against a mixed italian force of 3 keils, gendarmes, light cavalry, crossbows and one Arky unit.

A ridge ran much of the length of the middle of the field which rendered the french artillery of limited use. The french keils advanced over the ridge quickly but were separated from their cavalry support by italian light units, and a couple of the keils got charged in the rear by the italian gendarmes after which matters went downhill for the french even as the italian lights were routed by the french chivalry.
