Ostrogoth cavalry got round the edge of their opponents and with a degree of luck (lancers holding off cataphracts for what felt like an age and a couple of other fortunate events) got into the flank of the infantry battle.

Thanks to wellsonian for a good game - which was closely fought throughout.

Zawzgrzyt Andalusian 756-1049 defeats BobGanoush Byzantine 904-962 with Croatian allies 56-28

The battle line was largely based on the deep stream, as the brilliant, Andalusians general only noticed when his veterans spearmen nearly lost their cohesion by charging skirmishers. After heavy fights, several flanking attacks were successful, which finally gave the Andalusians an advantage and win.

klay (kyrenean) defeats tyronec (macedon) 60 to 55

an amazing battle where the greeks attempt a double envelopment. early on the Macedonians crush every attempt by the greeks at pinning down the macedon line. as the day wore on small gaps opened in the Macedonian line and flanks begin to show. the greeks, having lost many more units seem to lack enough units to capitalize on the gaps. but then an opportune flank attack on a pike unit presents itself. as the pike falls, another gap opens...and so just as nightfall approaches a final macedon unit falls and the battle ends. a great come from behind, nearly reversed again battle.

The battle evolved into two separate wings; The French right smashed the Danish left, but were pushed back slowly on their left.

Morat (Germans/Gauls) beat ulysisgrunt (Samnites/Gauls) 43-14

Germans used their light forces to occupy some Samnite foot on the left. The main battle was in the centre and the right. In the middle the veteran Samnite foot proved very difficult to stop - though the Germans had more success against the other mediums. On the right a mixture of German warbands, chariots and horse got the upper hand on their opponents, allowing forces to flow round the flanks. In the end this was the difference.

Thanks to ulysisgrunt for a hard fought game, much closer than the score suggests.

Polish forces were able to launch a cavalry ambush which caught the superior Armenian cavalry off balance. This allowed Polish infantry to charge through the more numerous Armenian skirmishers and overwhelm Armenian Skutatoi in line of battle. The lopsided score represents catastrophic fragmentation of Armenian infantry in quick succession from which the Armenians could never recover. A good match against a fine opponent.

Morat (Ostrogoths/Germans) beat SawyerK (Franks/Germans) 44-19

Brutal warband action where the Ostrogoth lancers were the difference. Ostrogoths used a mixture of light troops and warbands to put pressure in the centre, and the timely flanking arrival of Ostrogothic lancers provided decisive. On the flanks a mixture of shieldwall and heroic horse held up the opposition long enough for the central attack to be carried out (one lancer unit in particular only broke when it was down around 30% of its original strength).

Many thanks to SawyerK for a tough fight, which was very close until the last couple of turns.
