His Britannic Majesty Charles Stuart, the first of his name, King of England Ireland Scotland Wales Gibraltar and sundry other places;

is most perturbed that while he was away from the city of Oxford picnicking, hunting, and generally behaving in a Regal manner with the good gentlemen of that fair city, a horde of butcher's boys, apprentice bakers, and purveyors of lighting products did enter that fair city and despoil it with their riotous behavior.

Therefore his Majesty with all his great wisdom has commanded his forces to immediately liberate that city and return it to its rightful status as the King's home, and the home of his loyal gentlefolk.

The unwashed, and obviously putrid, rabble currently in the city are advised that should they wish to withdraw to the South into Berkshire, they may do so unmolested. They may take their arms, and their legs, their bibles in the common tongue, their ill-fitting suits of coarse wool, their ugly women, and their even uglier nags with them. Failure to withdraw forthwith will be considered full treason and punished in the prescribed, and extremely painful, but entertaining to watch, manner.

Be warned the Kings patience with these rebels grows thin,

Andre Devereaux,

Duke of Cornwall and Devon

Remember Lord Devereaux the occupation of Oxford means no garrison can be formed or any disbanded army reconstituted until it's retaken... however, to be fair because the garrison had not been formed... "The Duke of Gloucester can be brought back into play but must remain stationary in the county given him until Oxford is retaken..." However, you must declare where he is appearing before Parliamentarian moves this cycle

Gavin,

By command of our beloved King Charles, the King's Own Loyal Regiment, formerly the Duke of Gloucester's Fleet of Foot, have decided to ensconce themselves in the lovely County of Buckinghamshire (8) ready to support our victorious sweep into London and the South.

Definitely ! if you are in the county you add them to your pts (ie: +1000) otherwise they fight as 1000 pt army in defence only

Clearly, the Duke is regathering his pride after neglecting his avid supporters in this home county... let's hope he has better luck protecting his charges in the future....

Apologies if I am not uptodate on all the rules, but why is ianiow knocked out? Seems unfair as he does "occupy " a county(the one I just vacated) it seems the vagaries of the rules means you need to sit on you last county for if you and an enemy walk past each other, you just lose.....
He should get a chance to fight methinks...

I'm guessing that GDod is just stating what will be the posiiton at the end of the turn.

Whilst Ianow does indeed hold 2 counties, at present, he is moving into London (owned by Ulysisgrunt) whereas both his counties have Royalist forces moving into them unopposed. Although ownership now changes at the end of the turn, having moved into London he is not in a position to influence anything happening in any other county, and as he is going to lose his only 2 counties at the end of the turn he will be forced to disband.

Ah, I assumed he had moved to attack me. Still seems harsh, plus his troops would just take what supplies they needed from the londoners :).

Couple of points.

1) How is Grumpy reinforced? I thought armies reforming due to losses the previous turn couldn't reinforce, Ulysisgrunt is the only adjacent friendly force and he's reforming.

2) Damatrois hasn't moved so surely he is a defender as well?

3) a) How is it that Yongr will have to potentially fight LFDM for 9 when is he occupying it unoppossed? I understand that ownership now changes at the end of the turn, but it seems a bit unfair that Youngr will have to fight LFDM if he loses his fight against Brent.
b) I know that GDod has said that LFDM will have to fight as a flying column but will he still get his full 1050pts? (considering that he would have lost at least 40% of his forces fighting Brent!)
c) If LFDM loses against Youngr does he then get to retreat into 26? So he would have lost at least 40% of his force, twice, and yet would still get to defend 26 with a full 100pt army.
Potentially if LFDM loses against Brent (but causes 25% casaulties to Brent) and wins against Youngr, he could end up pinning 2 armies the following turn (a huge tactical advantage) even though no counties have changed hands. Sorry but seems to me unduly lenient. Also this would now seem to make it very hard to force an army to disband.

Hi Gavin & Awesum

If
Kingi (1000pts) vs Grumpy (1050 + 180 pts reinforcement) (reinforced battle for defender) in 3 agricultural terrain
and Grumpy must be reinforced by Ulysis
then
Does that mean Snuggles is reinforced by me up in the North?

Is Kelen vs Snuggles 1150 vs 1230 respectively?

Good point ... Yes I guess so... I've searched through the rules and can't find any reference that stationary armies are unable to reinforce... however, it would seem logical that a reforming army shouldn't be able to reinforce so... I'll put it out there that there should be a hasty amendment to the rules to read:-

Armies cannot reinforce neighbouring counties while refitting and reforming after suffering a loss of 25% or more (So, neither can reinforce... see amended battle posts... sorry parliamentarians it mainly affects you this turn but I know you're all up for a challenge... considering your last valiant efforts  )

In which case

Kingi (1000pts) vs Grumpy (1050) (Grumpy decides type of battle) in 3 agricultural terrain ("If one force is already occupying a county...Type of battle = Defender decides)
IDS (1050pts) vs Damatrois (1000 +100 +100 = 1200pts) (Damatrois decides type of battle and terrain) in 42 ("If one force is already occupying a county...Type of battle = Defender decides......Terrain (since in Wales) = Defender choice)
Kelen (1150pts) vs Snuggles (1050pts ) (open battle) in 38 pot luck terrain (north counties)
LFDM (1050pts) vs BJ (1000pts +180pts reinforcements from county 10 ) (Reinforced battle for the defender in 8 agricultural terrain
SECOND BATTLE WILL BE FOUGHT WITH RICHARDS (YOUNGR) IF LFDM LOOSES

Unfortunately, the Royalists anticipated his move to London knowing it is in Ulysis's control, but if Ulysis cedes it to Ian then everything is hunkydory :D :D :D

2) Damatrois hasn't moved so surely he is a defender as well? Correct see amended battle post

3) a) How is it that Yongr will have to potentially fight LFDM for 9 when is he occupying it unoppossed? No... LFDM can only leave the county if he wins the battle against Brent. If Richard had entered LFDM's county in the first part of the move then I would agree that he has exited the county and could not return but it is Richard's second part of the move (I tend to look at each part of the move and resolve the issues before actioning the next part) I understand that ownership now changes at the end of the turn, but it seems a bit unfair that Youngr will have to fight LFDM if he loses his fight against Brent.
b) I know that GDod has said that LFDM will have to fight as a flying column but will he still get his full 1050pts? (considering that he would have lost at least 40% of his forces fighting Brent!) Sorry my mistake no flying columns involved. Yes, this is an anomaly that two battles may need to be fought in the same cycle and the rules do not account for casualties for the first battle... we assume that he reforms from hasty reinforcements from the King, garrison detachments, conscripts and royalist deserters
c) If LFDM loses against Youngr does he then get to retreat into 26? So he would have lost at least 40% of his force, twice, and yet would still get to defend 26 with a full 1000pt army. Lucky him :D but he will have to remain sttionary

I agree Kelen, but let's play with the rules as they are this turn and see if Brent looses    or LFDM looses twice without doing too much damage and ensure the anomaly is addressed next cycle, sorry I can't foresee all possibilities before they happen Kelen but we can remedy them as we did the flying column county claim jump

Gavin,

on the 12th July you ruled that armies that are stationary due to loses or being rebuilt cannot reinforce.

Brent is definitely out of the campaign and does not wish to fight the battle so can another Royalist player please volunteer to fight it for him. If LFDLM loses (or draws) and has to retreat to Oxford and fight another battle against YoungR will the campaign halt until the second battle is fought? Not regaining Oxford is probably not crucial as I think all our armies can retreat if they lose.... but it would mean YoungR's army is tied up for an extra turn.

I think the order things happen needs to change slightly. It seems silly that an army can lose a battle and still fight at full strength in a second battle. The easiest and most sensible solution is to do all movement, start the battles, change ownership for all unchallenged occupations, then resolve the battles, then changes of ownership due to battle outcomes.
