Interesting battle with a fat piece of terrain sitting center that was a low hill with an entire rough surface. We made lemonade out of lemons;
GG Garokan!

Barrold713 (Kingdom of Soisson) defeats gamercb (Arab) 59-25

This battle was one where patience was the key and patience is a virtue my game does not have in large supply. The map was dominated by heavy woods and a large stream that would disorder most of the troop types on the map.

I was able to get a good number of auxilia on my right flank and they pressed forward with a force of warbands to clear out the heavy foot and massed archers. The center was dominated by the stream so I parked as many sub-Roman foot on the banks supported with lights to prevent any crossing.

My army was harassed significantly by light lancers pitching into their rear and flank but my dudes were able to win the melee game well enough to pull out a solid win.
Thanks for the match.
Good game!
Cheers

snooky51 (anglo-saxons) defeat Morat (french) -- 61-32

Anglo-saxons were able to make the most of their successful flanking maneuver on the french right, as the french cavalry chased the routed saxon right flank a turn too far.

snooky51 (anglo-saxons) defeat random27 (navarrese) -- 61-57

Complete bloodbath, anglo-saxons had to fight uphill most of the match and when the closing bell came it was the anglo-saxons with the high ground fighting downhill at the navarrese right flank. Had I not gotten a route off a flank charge in the last turn, the scores would likely be the opposite.

It was a super scrappy affair that took until the last turn to decide the match outcome. It almost ended 4-0 and then 2-2 one turn later... but a lucky last turn gave me the win 3-1. I'm glad my opponent got a point because he deserved at least one.

I made it clear towards the end of Season 11, and before the start of this season, that I was going to be bearing down on slow play in the tournament after it had been increasing for the last year or so. In general terms, I feel that things have improved this season and the match completion rate in many of the divisions is really excellent. There are still a few players though who do not seem to have received the message and are well behind schedule with their matches. The second Time Control check is next Sunday (7th November) and between now and then I will be addressing the few problems that we still have. I am anticipating a couple of changes in personnel and I have reserves standing by ready to take on an extra division.

Fysh (German Imperial) defeats DirtyMark (Teutonic Order) 41 - 15

The Teutonic Order suffered an early loss of cavalry (in part because of skirmishers and in part crossbowmen hiding in the woods) and never fully recovered. German mounted crossbowmen circled behind the enemy, and while they did not do much damage, they were a constant irritation and distraction to the Teutonic forces. Meanwhile German forces engaged the enemy and fought their way up a slight incline.

DirtyMark - thanks for an exciting match!

Division E

DirtyMark - Teutonic Order 1226-1319 AD (1200) defeated Lannes - Byzantine 1040-1071 AD (1200) 55-11

Both armies came out in a line formation with the Byzantines attacking with cavalry on the Teutonic left flank and mixed lancer and elite Varangian guard troops on the right. The Teutonic Order lost an actual Teutonic Knight unit commanded by a senior Sub general on the right flank in just one turn very early on in the battle, which seemed to doom them. Dismounted Teutonic order knights attacked in the centre but large numbers of Skoutatoi units were cleverly positioned so that if one unit was attacked its neighbours could launch attacks on either side and overwhelm the enemy unit. Some low quality Baltic levies managed to hold off the Varangian Guard until a unit of knights crashed into the flank of them. The left flank attack was successfully countered and a mixture of crossbow fire and support from Spearmen allowed the Knights to cause enough casualties in the centre to win the game. The Teutonic Order lost 14% of its force some 905 men whilst the Byzantine army lost 55% of its force some 3123 men. The Byzantine commander was a gallant and tenacious enemy who soldered on until the bitter end. His main failing was not to utilize the greater firepower offered by his mixed hand to hand and archery units.
