Division A

ericdoman1 - Byzantine 600-649 AD with Arab (Bedouin) 300-636 AD allies drew with XLegione - Andalusian 756-1049 AD 61-61

A fair result, although XLegione went from 57 to 61 by routing a LH, 4% for a LH? Still no real clue how casualties are calculated.

Pool B Group 2

Blagrot (Syracusan 412-281 BC) beat iandavidsmith (Greek 460-281 BC) 46%-19%

The Syracusian Phalanx settled on a pair of hills with mediums guarding some rough and cavalry and skirmishers patrolling the gap between the contingents, the greeks tried to push through the centre horse but well aimed slings and arrows disrupted them and reserves from the hilltops countered. As gaps developed the main forces downhill and steadily broke through the Greek lines. Thanks for the game and soprry for not commenting in game, I didn't notice the score :-)

Ciao Eric, it was not a light horse, it was a cavalry unit with lance.
It seemed a LH because the unit suffered a lot of casualties (close to 50%), it was a dice miracle that you rallied it some round before a shooting action created the condition for a second rout ;-)

Ciao

Chinese mixed foot and artillery just brings such overwhelming firepower to the field that in a frontal assault the numerically challenged Xiongnu stand no chance. GG!

Division B

oscarius (Lusitanian) beat IMC (Spartan) 44 - 8

A very unusual but entertaining battle. I early on won the shoot-out and my foe wasn't eager to attack me uphill so fell back to the edge of the map (with skirmishers continuing to harass him). I wasn't sure if I'd be able to stand up to his pikes and legionaries on the flat but advanced after him anyway (though out of disrupt to his fall back range). Meanwhile my cavalry unexpectedly managed to use pursuit speed to outrace him to the rear setting up a classic front-rear encirclement trap. It was only with seven turns to go that our lines actually clashed but the encirclement worked wonders. A memorable match.
