Not only that, you played very well, while I did not...
Thanks for the game!

No worries. You did good in the first round so we forgive you
May I take the opportunity and urge dvorkin(or maharg25) for an update of the standings in their first round game.
It's the decider after all!
Round 2
Later Achaeminiad- Hidde(Europe) 2/55 vs Later Achaeminiad-batesmotel(NA) 23/55
The dice have favoured me so far.

Hi Anders
Had some feedback from Maharg
I believe score so far was 30/74 Maharg and Dvorkin was 29/46
Something like that.
OK we are into round 2. I always like planning ahead and so was looking at an African/Asian/mediterranean/middle east Comp cup next. Armies like the EAPS very late, 26-28Dyn Egyptians, Eaarly Syracusans, Early Carthage, Kyrenean Greeks, Jews, (not Antigonids or Hyrkanus, we do not have info on Jews in 400BC but possibility they may be simialr) and Later Hoplite Greeks. Another one Late Rep Roman (equal numbers of legions), Gallic Later Lowland, Early Pontic, Armenian (tigranes the Great), Dacian. Once more all roughly within the same time period.

Game 3 (mixed) Alexandrian Macedonian-dvorkin(Europe) 53/46 vs Skythian-Todd645(NA) 45/67
Skythian victory. The Skythian commander chose terrain designed to break up Macedonian pike lines. The Macedonians advanced much quicker than expected and almost made it out of the rough going (broken and scrub). The Skythian Greek allies had the unfortunate job of holding the center against the pike. This did not go well for them. However, the Thracians on the left flank advanced in the broken ground and swept around the pike. On the right flank, the Skythian cavalry did the same. They also managed to isolate some skirmishers and destroy them as well. The game ended just as the Skythian Greek center collapsed completely. The 20BP advantage made the unit-for-unit exchange work out in favor of the Skythians.
Thanks to dvorkin for the game.
Go NA!

Round 2
Later Achaeminiad- Hidde(Europe) 17/55 vs Later Achaeminiad-batesmotel(NA) 55/55
The two forces spread out all the way from edge to edge. The fighting erupted in four or five seperate locations.
The dice gave me the upper hand in all but one and I was able to capitalise on that.
Go Europe!

Two skirmish armies with lots of MF support faced each other over the battlefield. The Skythians brought along a huge contingent of Thracians and looked like they were preparing to make full use of the rough hilly terrain. The Skythian advantage was in numbers and better MF. The Persian advantage was in superior cavalry.

Turn 4. The Skythian and Thracian cavalry came out to meet the Persians and have conducted a shooting retreat back to the hills. One impetuous Thracian spear unit charged off the mountain and fragmented its Persian opponent, but a swift reply by 3 Persian units have saved their friend from rout (so far). This is a tight cautious game of chess that may take some time to gain any sort of advantage.

Ian - thanks for posting the pics, I got tired of removing all the evade options and then taking a screen dump, and then adding the evade options back on, which covers about 80% of my troops. So I wasn't going to post pics this time.

After two turns and abyssmal luck, including having a field general charge an enemy cavalry in the rear and losing both the combat and his life, poor Massina's forces are starting to fold. In the east the Skythians are retreating the bulk of their left flank to high ground with a few brave units fighting a rearguard action to win the rest of the army time. The battle of the western plains is 50/50 at the momemt. Both scythed chariots in the pic above disappeared in the rally phase so the Thracian allies might be able to exploit the gaps in the Persian lines next turn.

The funniest thing is that I moaned bout poor dice the turn before, and next turn I was rewarded with the death of my ally-general next turn in that rear charge, and losing about 10 POA + combats in a row. A shame really, it was looking like a really interesting battle, but now it will just be one-way traffic. I'm feeling Jonno's pain.

After a slow start, Boores' Skythians and my Macs are now engaged. Macs (2/52) vs. Skythians (11/58). Mostly it's a big cavalry/hoplite fight in the center.
