Thanks for the game, although holding a defensive position the anglo-norman knights and dismounted knights struggled against the more modern counterparts, this combined with the Welsh spears collapsing very quickly after flanks in the open led to a german victory.

Hmmm...
I may be wrong but it definitely looks like one side playing the "turtle strategy" sticking to his border of the map as an impassable defensive line + a good defensive position and passively waiting for his opponent to cross the map, spend time in manoeuvering troops and attack (alt. : do the job).
Leads to endless boring games in my own experience.

Geffalrus (Antigonids) and klayeckles (Ptolemies) agree to an honorable draw of 52-56

The map was basically a checkerboard of rough and open ground, which is not traditionally where my army has, how shall we say, excelled. Initially I set up a strong defensive position with lots of pikes and medium foot backed up by a catapult and some light foot. I was content to wait for klay to come get me........until I saw that klay had brought 1 million skirmishers and lots of medium foot. Uninterested in catching arrows for a dozen turns only to get charged by legions and roflstomped, I said YOLO surged forward. My target was a hill on klay's left held by a pike and some weaker legions. Even with the slope, my pike mass stabbed their way through. But not quite fast enough to avoid getting flanked by some grumpy Roman legions. As the dust settled, neither of us was in a great position, and a truce was agreed upon to forestall additional, and pointless, loss of life.

Good game to klay, and that's it for me and this season of the DL. Big thanks to Pete for running a great tournament as always! See y'all next season. (2-2)

It was a very intensive battle, at the beginning the Babylonian got a significant advantage, their shooters stroke hard the Phoenician ranks. Probably this gave overconfidence to the Babylonian CiC that exposed the line to the charge of the heavy Phoenician infantry. Three rallies saved the day for the Babylonian

A real scrap. His knights and cavalry caused a lot of problems. I managed to survive some impacts and get into melee with a few of the cavalry units and kill them off. At the end, neither of us had much of an army left. Good luck with your last few games.

Triarii- German 933-1049 AD with Polish 966-1057 AD allies (1600) beat XLegione - Dailami 928-1055 AD with Armenian allies 885-1045 AD (1200) 45-3

The Dailami were very unfortunate in that one over enthusiastic pursuit of LI was directly across the front of the massed German armoured lancers who then rode down and rolled up the Dialami line.

Division B

Karvon - Arab (Conquest) 638-684 AD defeated IMC - Arab (Umayyad) 685-750 AD with Moorish 350-698 AD allies 60-49 for a 4-0 victory.

Battle was joined in hills along a major waterway. The waterway blocked off our left. A long gentle ridge ran along the waterway. Another long ridge ran from our far right into the center. In the valley between the two ridges lay a hamlet and surrounding enclosed fields. A large palm grove lay along the edge of the enemy far left and a series of steep hills ran from their center rear to the waterway.

Expecting superior numbers of enemy light and heavy cavalry, We brought a couple of camels to back up our own half a dozen lancers and a pair of light lancers. We brought our usual full contingent of light foot, a couple of massed bow, a pair of Dailami for the occasional patch of rough to back up our core of 8 superior spear.

We initially deployed our most of our spear and Dailami in the enclosures in the center screened by our light foot. A few lancers and camels were deployed on each flank on the ridges. Our massed bow deployed supporting our lancers on the right ridge. We held back 3 spearmen behind the ridge on our right. We were in a fairly good defensive position and depending on the enemy composition and deployment we could stand our ground or advance.

The Umayyads deployed mixed infantry force on our left, some spear, massed bow and medium foot screened by a few light foot. On right, they deployed half a dozen cavalry screened by half a dozen light horse. They initially moved their infantry along the ridge on our left while their horse moved to threaten our right.

We responded by shifting all our infantry to the ridge on our right, advancing parallel with the enclosures at the foot of the slope. Our own horse and camels shifted to the far right to challenge his horse, supported by our bow and light foot. His mounted accepted the challenge and swirling fight began on the right. I detached one spear to support the cavalry battle. His infantry wheeled across the left ridge and down into the hamlet and surrounding enclosures to threaten the left flank of our advance. We wheeled a few spear to face him from the slope and behind the enclosures. The remaining spear pressed on along the ridge and wheeled to face his opposing infantry. An infantry battle broke out along the slopes of the right ridge.

On our right, our combination of camels, bow fire and lancers broke and drove off most of his horse, but pursuit carried most of our own horse away from the action for a while. The infantry battle raged on, with his superior numbers slowly grinding down my better spearmen holding my left. A camel and lancer supporting the infantry repeatedly tried to ride down some massed bow but got disrupted or destroyed for their efforts. My left flank spear finally collapsed due to overwhelming losses. However my center spear had got stuck into his lower quality foot and, despite some heroic fighting on their part, rolled them back. Cavalry returning from pursuit flanked the Umayyad left and punched a hole in their line. Although a few Umayyad had rallied, the losses were finally too much for them and they streamed off the field a couple of hours before sunset.
