Re: Suggestions for the Themed Event in Season 12 (October 2021)?

Hi Pete,
couple of other ideas.
Sicily The Cauldron of Empires.
1. Early Carthaginians and Syracrusans fought over it for centuries.
2. The Athenians put in an appearance during the Peloponnesian War.
3. The Spartans did too (OK just a general and his retinue, but its a great what if).
4. The Later Carthaginians and Syracrusans returned to their squabbles for a few centuries more.
5. Pyrrhus of Epeiros tried his hand for a bit.
6. Then the Romans invaded and bashed everyone's heads in.
Fairly settled under the Pax Romanus.
7. The Byzantines had to fight the Goths and Lombards for the island.
8. Who in their turn had to fight Arabs and Normans.
Final suggestion.
Who was the Greatest?
Perhaps match up's, or battles of monarchs with the title '....... The Great'.
Sargon The Great (of Akkad) ?
Xerxes The Great ?
Cyrus The Great ?
Ramasses The Great ?
Ashoka The Great (Mauryan India) ?
Alexander The Great ?
Antiochus III The Great ?
Shapur I The Great (Sassanid Persia)?
Theoderic The Great ? (Ostrogoth)?
Constantine The Great ?
Alfred The Great ?
Charlemagne? (Charles The Great ?)
Timur (Tamerlane) The Great ?
Ghengis Khan (The Great Khan)?

Division C
Blagrot - Arab Conquest 638-684 AD beat random27 - German 888-932 AD with Magyar 830-1049 AD 60%-54%
Not much left on either side, both of us kept in the game at times by rallying units far from the action but in the end the resilience of the vet spears and dailami carried the day once the dismounted knights were dealt with. Thanks for the game, i thought about halfway through it would be your win.

I'll just throw a completely new thematic idea into the hat - Civil War. So I could come up with half a dozen civil war match-ups from across the various time periods.

I think the
Civil War and
Cauldron of Sicily are two particularly good ideas! Both have a specific theme and will both provide a very nice variety between the battles.
In addition, the Cauldron idea may be applied on a
Invasion of Britannic Isles theme (as already suggested, I think):
1. Romans vs. Britons. (Claudius' invasion.)
2. Anglo-Saxons vs. Romano-Britons or Late Romans.
3. Irish-Scots Raids upon Welsh.
4. Vikings vs. Anglo-Saxons/English (Stamford Bridge).
5. Vikings vs. Irish (Clontarf).
6. Anglo-Saxons/English vs. Normans (Hastings).
7. ...

Division B
lydianed (Andalusian) defeated IMC ( Umayyad + Moors) 60:56
This was a really tight battle in which the Arabs raced to a early lead but were pegged back, In the end the resilience and attrition made the difference between two equally competent forces. The Andalusians sneaked this one but I'm confident that the Umayyads would win best of three. Great tactical game IMC.

Weekly round-up
Only klayeckles (Ptolemaic) now has a mathematical chance of overtaking leader ericdoman1 (Spartan) in Division A after Geffalrus (Antigonid) suffered 2 defeats this week. At the bottom Cunningcairn (Thracian Getae) scored a first win to move away from the relegation position. A draw for kraff (Saka) this week means that hidde (Hannibal in Italy) now needs just 5 points from his last 2 matches to win automatic promotion from Division B. batesmotel (Bosporan) needs 2 points from 6 matches to relegate rexhurley (Syracusan). A third win for snooky51 (Roman) means he can still equal Warg1 's (Pyrrhic) total of 32 points in Division C. He now needs to get 20 points from his last 5 matches to take the promotion place as he defeated Warg1 in their match. Delbruck (Roman) has won promotion from Division D after posting his eighth successive victory. tmac11 (Samnite) needs 6 points from his last 2 matches to secure second place. A third win for Rob123 (Syracusan) in his last match has ended any relegation worries he may have had this season. In Division E MarcoCato75 (Seleucid) needs a 4 point win against Kroche (also Seleucid) to take the automatic promotion place ahead of DocVanNostrand (Graeco-Bactrian). bomber23 (Hannibal in Africa) is relegated. In Division F sivispacem (Gallic) completed an excellent campaign with his sixth win to finish third, and everything now depends on the ray552 (Galatian) v Jack-3kBattery (Seleucid) match to see who will take the promotion place.

Division C
Morat (Bohemians/Hungarians) beat edb1815 (Italians/Germans) 46-9
Open battlefield with the Italians just getting their foot onto a low ridge in the centre. Bohemian heavy foot fought upslope and managed to carve up their foes in just enough time to avoid being swept from the flank by the Italian/German horse. Score in no way reflects the battle, which felt much closer throughout.
Many thanks to edb1815 for a great battle, playing in an excellent spirit.

Weekly round-up
A very quiet week all round in Late Antiquity. Nothing to report from Division A while in Division B 2 wins for rexhurley (Dacian) has moved him right away from the relegation zone. Malabar26 (Byzantine) has secured an eighth straight win in Division C but can still be caught by snooky51 (Parthian) if he loses his match against him by 4-0. No change in Division D where carpenkm (Palmyran), Barrold713 (Ancient British) and sarmation (Sassanid) all still have a chance of overhauling Kerait's (Moorish) modest target of 26 points. The relegation battle is now between ggarynorman (Kingdom of Soissons and bomber23 (Dacian) after Blagrot (Germanic Horse Tribes) posted a third win. In Division E General Kostas (Bosporan) finished with a win and a draw to finish in a respectable fourth place.

Weekly round-up
ericdoman1 (Irish) is the new champion of the Early Middle Ages section after defeating late reserve Questar17 (Byzantine) in his last match. harveylh (Andalusian) and tyronec (Anglo-Saxon) both have to play Cunningcairn (Frankish) to decide second and third places. In Division B 2 wins for IMC (Umayyad) has given him a very good chance of securing second place, while a fifth defeat for paulmcneil (Dailami) has kept him firmly rooted to the bottom of the table behind lunecastle (Scots). Blagrot (Arab Conquest) defeated random27 (German) in the big promotion battle in Division C to sit 4 points off the lead with 4 games in hand. Strong finishes from either Morat )French) or snooky51 (Rus) could still make things very interesting. Nothing much to report in Division D except that the gap between 3rd place and the wooden spoon position is now just 4 points!
